KF2 Maternal Instincts: Farm the Matriarch with BossIndex

The Maternal Instincts objective (Winter event) asks you to defeat the Matriarch boss repeatedly, and the boss is chosen at random, so a normal match can give you Patriarch after Patriarch. This page merges two community guides on the topic: a Russian one that uses the console to peek at the boss, and a shorter English one that tried luck with a specific setup. The console method is the reliable one.

The console method

Create an offline match.

1. Create and load an offline match with 4 waves on any map and any difficulty.
2. When the match loads, open the console with ~ and type:

getall KFGameReplicationInfo BossIndex

3. Read the BossIndex value. For example, BossIndex=1 means the boss will be the Patriarch. You do not need that one, so reload the level with:

restartLevel

4. Repeat until BossIndex equals 4 (Matriarch). The author got it on the second attempt.

Console output with the BossIndex value.

A level where BossIndex came out as the Matriarch.

Boss values:

BossIndex	Boss
0	Dr. Hans Volter
1	Patriarch
2	King Fleshpound
3	Abomination
4	Matriarch

Repeat the same steps until the Maternal Instincts objective is complete. If you never fought a Matriarch before, you also get the related achievement.

The achievement unlocked after the kill.

The luck method (less reliable)

The shorter guide advised playing solo offline in Endless, Normal difficulty, on Santa's Workshop and hoping the first boss wave (wave 5) was the Matriarch. In its own words, the author got the Matriarch four times in a row, but readers disagreed: other players reported getting Krampus four times in a row, one reader pointed out that every map has random boss chances and that the console command is the right approach, and another suggested playing a 4-wave Normal solo game on Power Core as a faster option. The method also does not work if you call a vote to switch to Santa's Workshop. The author later noted that the developer announced the objective reward would be given anyway.
