KF2 Fan Story Teaser: Strasser vs Hans Volter in the Parking Garage

"Deadly Zone" (the Russian title is "Smertelnaya Zona") is a short teaser, written by a community author, for a fan novel set in the Killing Floor 2 universe. The author announced in the comments that he would start writing the full book the next day, that it might take a year or more, and that he hoped to cover the whole history and all the characters, maybe as a printed gift edition. This page retells the teaser. It is fan fiction, not canon. For official background see KF3 Mire lore and the other lore pages in this section.

A forgotten meeting

The scene is an underground parking garage soaked in smoke, napalm and gunpowder. Scratched walls, wrecked cars, mutant remains and broken pillars show that a massacre has just happened. Officer Rob Briar, dazed by a powerful explosion, gets to his feet. A young man, the DJ Scully, offers him a hand and says Hans has run away leaving a pile of cannon fodder, but "Hans never runs away and never leaves for nothing".

Rob, now past fifty, admits he is tired and wants rest. He recalls how his career started, with riot control and breaking the ribs of a young drifter on a football pitch, and how that led to dealing with the man's deranged father. Scully, who has never seen anything like this even in horror movies, agrees. Then the villain's voice rings out: the pigs' deaths have come.

Footsteps follow, and Briar raises his rifle. It is Anton Strasser, the German officer, walking slowly. Scully is shocked, because an hour earlier he saw Dr. Hans drain Strasser dry. Strasser answers that he is a soldier and was taught not to give up.

Strasser asks them to leave him there. He has unfinished business with the doctor from years ago and has had enough of endless wars and experiments. Briar asks if he is sure he does not want to flee with them. Strasser grips his shoulder, says he has seen enough nightmares and that one of them is coming now. They say farewell: Scully will miss his early-morning war stories, Briar embraces him and the two leave. Strasser readies his MP 40.

The fight

Hans Volter's rage echoes through the garage. Strasser takes cover and just in time: a grenade explodes where he stood twenty seconds earlier. Another lands behind a car and goes off after four seconds. Hans screams for them to show themselves and promises they will live a few seconds longer.

Strasser hides behind a column, feeling Hans the way he did in the 1944 laboratory. The doctor stares at the hiding spot, but fires both StG rifles into a car instead, and is baffled when nothing happens. Strasser creeps closer, but the old man throws him aside with a backhand. Another grenade hits the floor near him; with his last strength Strasser kicks it away and it explodes. He runs, reloads, empties half a magazine into Hans and takes a bullet in the shoulder, wondering if the man is immortal.

Then Strasser makes a bold choice. He throws his rifle and magazines out from behind the column, taunts Hans as a coward who fights like one, and demands a fair fight. Hans, vain and proud, lays his two guns on the floor. Strasser steps out with an entrenching shovel. In the clash he blocks the doctor's first leap and lands two heavy blows, but Hans catches his throat, squeezes, and the shovel falls. Strasser clings to life, slashes the doctor's hose with a bayonet and gets free for a moment, but Hans grabs him again, boasting that the strong devour the weak, and a cold numbness spreads through Strasser's body as his strength drains. The teaser ends with him collapsing as Hans calls him a little foolish pig.

Notes

  • The text is the opening of a longer planned work, so it stops mid-story.
  • Original comments encouraged the author to continue, and some asked where the full version could be read.
