KF2 Custom Map Download Error: Raise MaxDownloadSize
Some Killing Floor 2 servers with custom maps would not let new players in and showed a Connection Error. A Korean community member traced it to the server's per-file download cap: the host server limits how much data it will send to a joining client, and custom maps are bigger than the default.
Symptoms
- Players cannot connect to a custom-map server, or their download never finishes.
- When you host your own server with custom maps, other people cannot join for the same reason.
Fix
- Open the server config file
kf2server\KFGame\Config\PCServer-KFEngine.iniin Notepad. - Press Ctrl+F and search for
MaxDownloadSize. - The default value is
1024000, which equals about 1 MB. - Change it to a larger number. The author suggests
102400000. - Save the file and restart the server.
Tips
- The limit applies to each downloaded file, so choose a value above the size of your biggest map.
- If you run many maps or large mods, consider hosting them on a web redirect instead. See custom maps with an nginx redirect for the approach, and server setup with custom maps and mods.
