KF2 Berserker R/V Cancel and Zweihander Combos
R or V cancel is a timing technique for Berserker and other melee users in Killing Floor 2: you press the reload key (R) or the bash key (V) just as your swing lands, which cancels the rest of the animation so the next strike starts sooner. This article is a rewrite of a Zweihander-focused guide written from personal experience; the author notes it was still being edited and welcomes questions. See also Berserker parry lock on Fleshpound and Scrake and the Berserker build.
What R or V cancel is
As soon as the attack hits the target, press R or V. A typical rhythm is swing, cancel, swing, cancel. The main skill is the timing, and it takes a lot of practice.
Why it matters
- You kill the target faster.
- It is possible with almost any melee weapon.
To feel the speed difference, the author provides before and after clips of the same attacks:
| Attack | Before | After |
|---|---|---|
| Overhead 1 (heavy attack) | https://youtu.be/E7NDzY48onw | https://youtu.be/PWAWeDTyslk |
| Overhead 2 (heavy attack) | https://youtu.be/I97MsPSbW0g | https://youtu.be/mJnUrm5VGu8 |
| Horizontal slash | https://youtu.be/52Jp_w-6XSw | https://youtu.be/2U7yYsdx_PM |
| Weak overhead (light attack) | https://youtu.be/aWq0mZbTxL8 | https://youtu.be/PXFKQNnkDio |
To swing as fast as in the "after" clips you must cancel every attack, and the speed of the cancel should match the target's movement and attack pattern. Further videos show the cancel on other melee weapons, for example the Battle Axe. (The voice in the author's videos is not the author's.)
Zweihander combos
These combos need practice: aim for the head, cancel swings quickly and know each ZED's attack pattern.
Scrake
With two upgrades on the Zweihander, a Scrake dies easily. Use both parry stumble and melee hit stumble; the Parry skill helps a lot. Sequence: 1 overhead, 1 weak overhead, 1 overhead.
Fleshpound
You can hit a Fleshpound by blocking during its attack motion, but this is a hard skill. Cancelling the attack motion and hitting the head is crucial. Two sequences from the guide:
- Combo 1: 2 overhead, 1 horizontal slash, 1 stab (not a headshot), 2 overhead, 1 stab. The Fleshpound dies instantly.
- Combo 2: 1 stab, 1 weak overhead, 2 overhead, 1 horizontal slash, 1 stab, 2 overhead.
Quarter Pound
Similar to the Fleshpound combo: 2 overhead, 1 horizontal slash, 1 stab.
