KF2 Lazy Beginner Guide: Perks, Dosh, Weak Spots, Bosses
This is a short and informal beginner guide to Killing Floor 2. It does not go deep, but it covers the habits that make a game go smoothly.
Perks
Perks are the game's class system, and each is good at something different. SWAT and Firebug are great at killing trash ZEDs, while Gunslinger and Sharpshooter excel at large ZEDs. If you play a trash-killing perk, focus on trash. For example, if a Gunslinger is lining up headshots on a Scrake and a Firebug sets it on fire, the Scrake panics, which makes it much more annoying to kill.
- Supports are appreciated: they hand out ammo and repair broken doors.
- Medics are a gift. Support them so they can support you.
- Berserkers are annoying, according to the author. See /en/gamedb/killingfloor2/perks/berserker-team-play-grouping-guide/ for how to play one well.
Basic gameplay
Stay together
Killing Floor 2 is a team game. If you want to play alone there is a solo option. ZED counts scale with the number of players, so when you wander off you either fight too many ZEDs yourself or leave your team to deal with your share.
Dosh
Dosh is money. If you do not need yours, press B to drop it for someone who does. If you are short, delay buying armor until later waves and save expensive ammo by using your sidearm when you can. In early waves you often need the primary weapon only for tough situations or large ZEDs.
Death
If a teammate dies, do not sell their weapon. If you pick it up, give it back when they respawn by tapping Backspace while the weapon is equipped. Forcing someone to buy everything again is rude and weakens the whole team.
Weapons
The author does not think the choice matters a great deal. Unless you are going for optimal play, use what you like, as long as the weapon fits your perk.
Killing
Most enemies die to headshots, with exceptions:
- Fleshpounds can be shot on the glowing chest plate as well as the head.
- E.D.A.R. variants (the robots) should be shot in the chest.
- Husks take the most damage on their backpacks.
Bosses
The guide counts five bosses, each handled differently:
- Dr. Hans Volter: shoot the head, the chest "core" and the backpack.
- The Patriarch: shoot his right arm or the chest tentacle.
- King Fleshpound: kill him like any Fleshpound, with head or chest shots. Crouch to dodge his chest beam.
- Abomination: shoot the head.
- Matriarch: after destroying her armor, the head takes the most damage. See /en/gamedb/killingfloor2/tactics/matriarch-crossing-zeds-boss-guide/.
