Difficulty ladder

Level rangeSuggested difficulty
1 to 7Normal
8 to 13Hard
14 to 20Suicidal (perks are unlocked in steps of 5)
21 to 25Hell on Earth

At the very beginning you have no perk skills yet, and the weapons of other perks affect how fast you level, so watch what you are using.

Pick a main and prestige

Choose a perk you enjoy and level it to 25. Then check which of your other perks has the highest level and prestige your main one first, so you always keep one high-level character to continue with.

Aim at weak points

Most ZEDs die fastest to headshots, but some need other targets: shoot a Siren in the legs, and stay at range from big ZEDs that charge or rage. Armored limbs can be shot off, and grenades help. For solo play the author suggests Field Medic.

Challenges and loot

  • Daily challenges: ignore them at the very start; from about level 7 try Hard-level ones, and on Suicidal or Hell on Earth do them around levels 15-19.
  • Leveling drops items you can sell on the Steam Market, or turn into tokens used to craft another item. The guide lists rarity tiers up to epic and very epic.
