KF2 Item Rarity Tiers, Crafting and Trading Explained

Killing Floor 2 cosmetics and weapon skins share a six-step rarity ladder, and each tier has its own color. This page explains the tiers, the special red and green items, wear levels, crates and the trading and crafting rules.

Tier ranking, worst to best

  1. Common: white or gray
  2. Uncommon: light blue
  3. Rare: dark blue
  4. Exceptional: dark purple
  5. Master Crafted: light purple
  6. Precious: gold

Two extra colors appear in the inventory:

  • Red: Exceptional quality. Includes default cosmetics that do not show in your Steam inventory, account-bound cosmetics (sold only in sets in the in-game store) and player uniform variants from the Vault Crate that are not Precious.
  • Green: Master Crafted.
  • Cyan blue marks crates and USB sticks.

Vault crates are neither tradable nor marketable. Precious items are rare. Those from dosh vault crates or the dosh vault that grants a crate are untradable and unmarketable, and rarely found; if one came from the drop system, that is a bug. Precious items obtained from USBs or crates are very rare and expensive.

Weapon skins and wear

Weapon skins come in the same six tiers and also in three wear levels: Mint, Field-Tested and Battle-Scarred. Free item drops are cosmetics or weapon skins from the first five tiers. The sixth tier is available only by opening a Horzine Supply Crate or an Encrypted Weapon Skin USB.

Crates and USB sticks

  • A Horzine Supply Crate holds one skin variant of a wearable cosmetic chosen at random from a set for that crate type. It is unlocked with a decryption key, bought from the Trading Floor or on the Steam Market. There is a chance of a Precious golden accessory.
  • An Encrypted Weapon Skin USB holds one Rare weapon skin blueprint from a set, also unlocked with a decryption key. There is a chance of an ultra rare Precious golden weapon skin.

Trading

You can trade items you find during play, items from crates (wearable accessories), skins from USBs (blueprints) and items bought from the Trading Floor in-game store. Items you receive from the in-game tutorial are not tradable. Most items can be traded in the Trading Floor Zed-conomy.

Crafting

  • Common, Uncommon, Rare and Exceptional items can be broken down into crafting materials that match their rarity.
  • Combining 10 sets of material of the same rarity creates a random new item one rarity level higher. For example, break down 10 Common items to craft a random Uncommon one.
  • Master Crafted items can be crafted but not recycled.
