Killing Floor Unused Text: Mutators, Code and Strings

Killing Floor's code and localization files keep a fair amount of text that never reaches the screen: half-finished mutators, a dead blood effect and dozens of strings for ammo pickups that the final game does not use. This page is part of the set collected in Killing Floor cut content.

Unused code

Mutators

Two mutators are left in the files. Both have their group commented out, so they never appear in the mutator list. They seem to have been dropped early, and both refer to content that was cut.

BeatDown

Description: Melee Weapons only. For ye hard'uns.

This one looks very unfinished: it ignores the trader and the weapons players spawn with. All it does is remove ammo pickups and replace random item pickups with either the Fire Axe or the cut Broken Pipe (see unused weapons).

Machine Pistols

Description: All the semi-auto 9mms in Killing Floor are replaced with fully automatic counterparts.

It may have been cut together with its weapon, the Machine Pistol, whichever went first.

3D blood effects

There is leftover code for a 3D style of blood effects. It used the unused splatter models and pointed to textures from the Unreal Tournament 2004 mod days that were never replaced. Even with the variables uncommented, it still does not work.
