Admins With Different Rights on a Killing Floor Server (xAdmin Groups and Users)
A Killing Floor server owner needs people to keep order: kick troublemakers, change the map, finish off stuck zeds. Hand everyone the same admin password and each of them gets full rights, server settings included. Extended administration lets you create separate logins and give each person only what they need. This page is based on Proton's guide (Proton Net), published on the killingfloor.ru forum in 2011.
The simple way: one password for everyone
In KillingFloor.ini, section [Engine.AccessControl]:
AdminPassword=yourpass
The admin opens the console (~) and types adminlogin yourpass, and leaves with adminlogout. The same password opens WebAdmin at http://server-ip:port/ServerAdmin/. It is convenient, but that person can change anything, so only give it to people you fully trust.
Turning on groups and users
- Stop the server and open
KillingFloor.ini. - In
[Engine.GameInfo], replace
AccessControlClass=Engine.AccessControl
with
AccessControlClass=xAdmin.AccessControlIni
- Start the server. In WebAdmin's top menu (Current - Defaults - Admins & Groups) the Admins & Groups item becomes active. Users and groups are stored in
xAdmin.iniinSystem. - Log in to WebAdmin with the default account: user
Admin, passwordAdmin.
The main admin
Everyone knows Admin/Admin, so create your own account first:
- Add Groups: create a group, for example
MainAdmin, tick every permission and press Add Group. - Add Users: create a user with your own name and password (for example
MAdmin/MPass), pickMainAdminas Initial Group and press Add Admin. - Browse Users: delete the
Adminuser.
Now only your user has full rights. In-game login changes too: it takes a name and a password:
adminlogin MAdmin MPass
Moderators with limited rights
Example: two people who need different rights.
- Moderator A may only kick. Create a group
Group1with a single permission, Kick Players (Kick/Ban section), and a userModer1in that group. - Moderator B may kick for the session, ban, change maps, kill stuck zeds and so on. Create a second group with those boxes ticked and a user for it.
Moderator A logs in with adminlogin Moder1 Password1 and in WebAdmin sees only Player List; any other page reports insufficient rights. You can have as many groups and users as you like. In game, each admin can only run the commands their group allows.
One-key login
Typing a name and password after every map change gets old. In System\User.ini, section [Engine.Input]:
F7=adminlogin Moder1 Password1
F8=adminlogout
F7 grants admin rights, F8 drops them.
Privilege codes in xAdmin.ini
If WebAdmin will not save individual checkboxes (for example only Kick Players without the whole Kick/Ban group), you can write the rights by hand in xAdmin.ini. A user entry looks like this:
AdminUsers=(AdminName="boom",Password="134625",Privileges="Kp|Kb",Groups=("Admins"),ManagedGroups=("Admins"))
A single letter means the whole group of rights, a letter with a suffix means one specific right. Separate several rights with |.
| Group | Whole-group code | Individual rights |
|---|---|---|
| Kick/Ban | K | Kp Kick Players, Kb Ban Players, Ko Kick Bots |
| Maps/Game Settings | M | Mr Restart Map, Mt Change Game Type, Mm Change Map, Ml Manages Map Rotation, Ms Game Settings, Mu Select Mutators, Mb Add/Remove Bots, Ma Game Status |
| Users & Groups | A, G | Al List Admins, Aa Add/Remove Admins, Ae Edit Admins, Ag Assign Groups, Am Make Managers, Gl List Groups, Ga Add/Remove Groups, Ge Edit Groups |
| Miscellaneous | X | Xb Set Bot Skill, Xc Use Console, Xp Player List, Xs Change Webadmin Skin, Xi Manage Access Policies, Xv Voice Chat Management, Xm Match Setup |
Examples: Privileges="Kp|Kb|Ko" kicks and bans players and kicks bots; Privileges="Kp|Kb|Mm|G" kicks and bans, changes the map and edits groups in WebAdmin. Source: killingfloor.ru forum, "Не сохраняются права на WebAdmin" (WebAdmin rights are not saved) thread.
Common problems
| Problem | Fix |
|---|---|
| Admins & Groups never becomes active | Make sure the line was changed in [Engine.GameInfo] and the server was fully restarted |
| The old password stops working after the change | Expected: until you create your own users, the login is Admin/Admin in WebAdmin and adminlogin Admin Admin in game |
| You want commands like "give everyone all weapons" | Stock admin does not have them; use a mutator such as AdminPlus |
| Cyrillic text in the WebAdmin console shows as garbage | Switch the page encoding in the browser to Windows-1251 |
