Killing Floor Objective Mode & Story Maps Walkthrough
Objective Mode (KFO) transforms Killing Floor from a wave survival game into a linear story-driven mission. Instead of just killing Zeds, you must escort VIPs, repair generators, and transport gold bars.
Official Objective Maps
1. KFO-Steamland (The Ringmaster)
Objective: Help the Ringmaster repair his carnival ride and escape.
- Hardest Part: Escorting the Ringmaster.
- Tip: The Ringmaster has health. Heals work on him! A Medic should focus solely on healing the NPC.
- Gold Bars: You have to carry gold bars which slow you down. Drop them (Default key:
\) during combat, clear Zeds, then pick them up again.

Objective Mode arrived with update 1048-1049, and at the time Steamland was its only official map.
- Wave 1. The area from the spawn (the station) to the park gates (Entrance) is open. Task: kill a set number of zeds.
- Wave 2. Same area. Task: kill a set number of zeds and weld a set amount on the breaker boxes. Until the welding is done, zeds keep coming endlessly, and Fleshpounds and Scrakes already appear on this wave.
- If the team is not strong, focus on building up energy as fast as possible rather than kills.
- One player's impression: the more boxes are welded, the faster the energy builds. Two approaches: hold a defensible spot with several boxes nearby, or run as a group from box to box without guarding them.
- Zeds tend to go for welded boxes rather than players. One player kept welding a box while a Clot hit it; a queue of Clots formed behind it and blocked the other zeds from reaching him, until the Demolitions players blew up the whole crowd.
- Counter glitch: sometimes after the required 200 kills one or more zeds, usually big ones like Fleshpounds and Scrakes, are left "uncounted" and keep roaming during trader time. The trader-time no-clip applies to them too.
- Wave 3. The whole map opens. Tasks: heal Ringmaster Lockheart and escort him to the airship dock, then defend him for a set time while killing zeds.
- A Medic with medic grenades helps a lot, two Medics even more; you can also buy medic guns for teammates.
- The task does not start until someone heals Lockheart for the first time: no timer, he does not lose HP, no zeds. Use this to scout the route, let Demolitions lay pipe bombs at his stops (refilling them from ammo boxes), or search for ammo, free guns and armor.
- Players cannot kill him, so you can freely throw grenades, use explosives and lay mines around him. One player suggested standing a bit to the side and burning, bombing or healing from a distance instead of covering him with your bodies.
- He always takes the longest route.
- Wave 4. Task: get three gold bars and bring them to the dock. The bars are in safes behind paintings. Before the wave starts, wait where they appear so you can grab them at once. With enough people, post someone at each safe in advance to unweld it, then regroup.
- Wave 5. Final wave: kill the Patriarch.
- His health bar is visible, so throw grenades and fire explosives along his likely paths: if the bar twitches, he was hit while cloaked and you know where he is.
- Whether dead players respawn during the Patriarch fight depended on the server: on one player's own unmodded server everyone respawned, on other servers the dead stayed dead.
Bugs and binds:
- Sometimes a player is not thrown out of the trader when trader time ends and stays stuck inside.
- The usual quick-welder bind
getweapon kfmod.welderdoes not work in Objective Mode because the welder uses a different class there. Bind this instead:
GetWeapon Welder | GetWeapon KF_PawnWelder
Alternatively, press the slot 5 key twice (SwitchWeapon 5): the first press selects the syringe, the second the welder. More binds: Useful binds for Killing Floor.
2. KFO-Transit (Subway)
Objective: Escape a metro system overrun by Zeds.
- Key Mechanic: Welding specific doors to route Zeds away from you while waiting for the train.
- Boss: The Patriarch fight happens in a confined space on the platform. Keep moving.
3. KFO-FrightYard
Objective: Various tasks in a container yard.
- Key Mechanic: Operating cranes and forklifts. Watch for "Interaction" icons.

The second official Objective Mode map, added in the autumn 2013 update. Achievements: 4 for completing it on Normal, Hard, Suicidal and Hell on Earth, plus 3 special ones.
- Wave 1. Get into the dock warehouse grounds and fight off a small number of "starter" zeds.
- Wave 2. There are several rows of welded-shut containers. Task: find the two crane control parts inside them while "starter" zeds keep spawning. The containers also hold zeds, ammo, weapons and armour. As soon as you pick up both parts (they can be dropped from your inventory), zed spawning stops and you only need to finish off the ones already out. A good idea is to bring Berserkers and cut down plenty of zeds to build up money before grabbing the parts.
- Wave 3. Put the control panel and the cable in place to start the event. Task: stand on the platform and fight off zeds. The "button" is small, and as soon as you step off it the progress bar starts going back. On easy difficulties any perk can hold it; a solo Support clears this wave without trouble. On high difficulties you need either good teamwork (an accurate Sharpshooter to take down Fleshpounds and Scrakes fast) or a trick: everyone except the one on the button goes Berserker, blocks the zed spawns, bunches the zeds up to stall spawning and kites them around the map. You can also earn a lot of money here. When the bar fills up, finish off the remaining zeds; be sure to check the grate you came through in the previous wave, where a few stuck zeds always hang around.
- Wave 4. Bile collection. The grate over the pit opens and zeds come from two sides. Kill everything except Bloats, which you must lure into the pit. You need 10 Bloats to win; no more than three other zeds may fall into the acid, otherwise the count starts over. Perks that deal heavy, precise damage fast did well here: Support, Sharpshooter and Berserker.
- Wave 5. There are two gas pumps turned into "one-armed bandit" slot machines. Throwing money into them starts a lottery whose prizes are ammo, zeds or petrol. Task: win two cans of petrol while fighting off zeds. Any perk works. A thread member added that instead of 50 pounds you can throw 10 (it does not accept less).
General Tips for Objective Mode
- Read the HUD: The top left corner always tells you what to do. "Repair Generator", "Defend Area".
- Don't just kill: Zeds spawn infinitely during some objectives. Focus on the task (welding/repairing). Killing is just for survival.
- Role Selection:
- Berserker: Great for carrying heavy items (Gold/Fuel) because they move faster and can tank hits.
- Support: Essential for welding objectives.
- Medic: Mandatory for escort missions.
Custom Story Maps
Additions
From the "Разные Game Type и карты к ним" (various game types and their maps) thread by WipeMaster, with help from DMN666.
Notes on story maps:
- Some old maps need the CustomSpawnFix mutator: Tripwire changed the zed codes and broke old maps.
- The ScrnStoryGame, KFChaingunTurret, Fall_TriggerPack, KFGasCan and clientmaterialtrigger mutators are whitelisted.
- Avoid NetReduce and similar mutators: otherwise keys, weapon spawns and switches disappear and scripts stop working.
- Some maps from other modes may work in KFO if you change the prefix by hand (
KF-/KFS-/TOY-). The thread lists under this note: kf-Arcade-Mission-v2, KF-Hokuto_Ujou_Hagan_Ken_v2, KF-LaserChallengeV3, KF-Offices-Story-alpha1, KF-roofhop, KF-SaarV5, KF-Strangev12, KF-TheHiveV1REV3, KF-TheHiveV2FC, KF-TheHiveV3Beta, TOY-DevilsDollhouse, TOY-DevilsDollhouse-FixV3.
Missions for Killing Floor Mode. These maps are old, so expect bugs; many have modified spawns or inventory, so if the game crashes, check your mutators first.
