How to Disable Shopping Spree Mall Music in KF2

Shopping Spree is one of the most recognisable Killing Floor 2 maps, and its mall music is just as recognisable. If you find the looping tunes distracting, you can remove them by deleting a single audio package. The method below was first posted on Reddit and is reproduced here with the original author's credit going to the Reddit user who wrote the thread.

Before you start

Close Killing Floor 2 completely. You are changing game files, and doing that while the game runs is a bad idea.

Step 1: Open the game folder

The default path is:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\killingfloor2

If the game is on another drive, look for a Steam or SteamLibrary folder there. The easy way: in your Steam library right-click Killing Floor 2, choose Properties, open the Local Files tab and press Browse local game files.

Step 2: Find the ambient audio

Go to:

KFGame\BrewedPC\Packages\Audio\Ambient

You will see many files named like WW_ENV_<MapName>.upk. These hold each map's ambient sound.

Step 3: Remove the Shopping Spree file

Find WW_ENV_ShoppingSpree.upk and move it out of the folder. Keep a copy elsewhere if you may want the music again; otherwise delete it.

Step 4: Check it worked

Launch a solo Shopping Spree match. If it worked, the mall music is gone. You will also lose the rain and lightning sounds and the Patriarch announcements on the pre-match lobby screen, because they live in the same package.

Undo

  • If you kept the file, drag it back into the Ambient folder.
  • If not, right-click Killing Floor 2 in Steam, open Properties, Local Files, and press Verify Integrity of Game Cache. Steam re-downloads any missing file.
