KF2 Stopped Launching: Install the Bundled Redistributables

This page paraphrases a short Russian-language guide for players whose Killing Floor 2 suddenly stopped launching. The author says that, at the time of writing, this was the only method they knew that reliably brought the game back to life.

Guide cover Cover of the original guide.

The fix

To get the game starting again:

  1. Open the folder Steam\steamapps\common\killingfloor2\_CommonRedist.
  2. Open the DotNet folder, then 3.5, and install dotnetfx35.
  3. Open the PhysX folder and run the PhysX installer.
  4. Open the vcredlist folder, then 2010, and run vcredist_x64 or vcredist_x86, depending on your system.
  5. Restart Steam.
  6. Launch the game.

If the PhysX installer errors out

If an error appears during PhysX installation (for example because a newer version is already installed), uninstall PhysX first and then install the version from the game folder.

Notes

The author sums it up as the only verified method known to them, and hopes it helps others as it helped them. If it does not, see the other startup fixes: the launch hang fix with the PhysX folder and the won't-run checklist.
