KF2 Private Server for a Custom Map with SteamCMD

This Russian-language community guide (originally titled around fast perk leveling on a custom map) shows how to stand up a minimal Killing Floor 2 dedicated server on Windows so you can play a workshop or test map with friends. The map itself was shown in a few screenshots in the original, which are no longer available.

Install the server with SteamCMD

1. Download SteamCMD and unpack it into its own folder, because it creates many subfolders while installing.
2. Run steamcmd and wait for the first-time update to finish. When the Steam> prompt appears, type login anonymous.
3. Set the install directory and download the server. Type the commands by hand, since pasting caused errors for the author:
   • force_install_dir c:\KF2Server\ (the path can be changed)
   • app_update 232130 validate
4. When the download ends, type quit.

Configure the launch file

In the server folder you will find a .bat file and several directories. Replace the launch line with one that starts your map, for example:

start .\Binaries\win64\kfserver kf-testingmap?adminpassword=123?GameMapCycles=(Maps=("kf-testingmap")

The admin password can be changed; it is used for the browser admin panel.

Add the map

Copy the map folder into KFGame\BrewedPC\Maps inside the server directory.

Edit the ini files

In KFGame\Config open PCServer-KFGame.ini with a text editor and set:

• GameLength=1
• GameDifficulty=1.000000

Then open KFWeb.ini and set bEnabled=true if you want the web admin panel.

Find your IPv4 address (run ipconfig in cmd) and add port 8080, for example http://192.168.1.108:8080/. Start the server first, then log in as administrator with the password from the .bat file.

Playing with friends

For stable online play use a static IP or a virtual network tool such as Hamachi or Tangle. In the game open the server browser, choose the LAN tab and connect. Then invite friends.
