KF2 Demolitionist Tips and Tricks (Early Access Guide)

This early-access guide sums up how the Demolitionist is meant to be played. The perk is built around crowd control: you hit big clumps of ZEDs with a grenade launcher or RPG. Its weakness is close range, where your own explosions can hurt you and rockets or grenades may fail to detonate. The numbers below are from the early build; for newer material see the Priceless Demolitionist guide.

Eight tips

  1. Stay with the group. Because the perk is weak up close, let teammates clear ZEDs that reach you.
  2. Keep your distance. Even with explosive resistance you can hurt yourself. Rockets and grenades fired too close to an enemy do not detonate, so stay at a safe range while still near the team.
  3. Do not waste ammo on Scrakes. They resist explosives by 50 percent, and shooting them just enrages them. Leave them to a good Berserker. The one exception: RPG rounds do 50 percent extra impact damage, and a headshot stacks on top, so a rocket to the head can be worth it if you must.
  4. Deal with Fleshpounds. Unlike Scrakes, Fleshpounds are weak to explosives (about 50 percent extra). Use the RPG or well planted C4.
  5. Know when to use C4. Killing Floor 2 has no auto-detonating pipebombs like Killing Floor 1; C4 replaced them. It is remote detonated, which is great against clusters of small ZEDs. Buy it in later waves and place it at welded doors where ZEDs break through, saving RPG ammo.
  6. Carry an off-perk weapon. An extra 9mm pistol or a katana helps in close combat.
  7. Do not fire at single ZEDs or tiny groups. It only wastes ammo.
  8. Ignore Bloats. They resist explosives heavily; a headshot is enough.

Extra information

  • Your one or two sticks of dynamite are basically long-fuse HE grenades. At level 5 you can unlock the skill that makes them explode on impact, turning them into extra M79 grenades.
  • The HX25 pistol deals little self-damage and explodes at any range, so use it close up. Shoot the floor to maximize splash, since its impact damage is low.
  • Demolitionist weapons are expensive, so the perk shines in later waves when there are more ZEDs and more dosh.

FAQ

What is the Demolitionist's job?
Crowd control: dealing heavy explosive damage to large groups with the grenade launcher or RPG, while staying near the team.
Should a Demolitionist shoot Scrakes?
Mostly no. Scrakes resist explosives by 50 percent and become enraged. A direct RPG hit to the head is the exception because of its impact damage.
Is the Demolitionist good against Fleshpounds?
Yes. Fleshpounds take extra damage from explosives, so RPG rockets and well placed C4 are effective.
