KF2: How to Help Your Medic (Five Teammate Tips)

This is a translation and paraphrase of a Russian-language Steam guide titled "The Medic will say thank you". The author writes about the responsible player who deliberately picks Medic to keep the team alive. Solo Medics running without a team are outside the scope.

Who the Medic is

The Medic is a support class that watches the team's health. At any difficulty, he is valuable to the team; if you are still learning the game, how long you live depends directly on him.

How you can help

Pay attention first to his class level: at early levels a Medic needs situational help like any newcomer.

  1. Give him dosh. If you have spare 10, 100 or 1000 dosh, give it to the Medic. Being instantly restored from 5-10 HP and taking a flash grenade to live is a good feeling. Healing speed and duration cost money. If it does not matter to you, let him buy another grenade; it might decide the wave.
  2. Stay within a sensible reach. In a mad chase for kills you can put him in a bad spot, so that he loses both you and a sudden big ZED that grinds down someone else. Do not play alone; you picked this mode, so follow team survival tactics. But clumping without reason hurts his efficiency just as much.
  3. Run to the Medic, not away. When you have absorbed a critical amount of damage and your bar empties, build the reflex to run toward the Medic. It is sad to watch a damaged teammate dash into one pack of mobs to escape another, deep into the map where nobody can help him; the team loses a fighter.
  4. Demolitionist: you can be doubly useful. The Grenadier skill hands every teammate an extra grenade each wave, available from level 5. Few players outside Hell on Earth use the Direct Contact skill correctly to stun Flesh Pounds or Scrakes, and many use it for the wrong purpose.
  5. Berserker: do not stand still like a post. Move and avoid the damage you can avoid. Do not count on the Medic latching onto you like an XP barrel; he has several other worthy targets across the map. Standing still also pulls the Medic to you, leaving others without a heal when they need it.

The author adds that even experienced players forget these simple truths.

Afterword

If you play with a new Medic, help them with information. Treat each thing you do or say as a few percentage points added to the team's chance to win, not as drilling sense into the weak. Example: make sure the newcomer knows about the Tab scoreboard and the current HP of allies shown there. This small detail saves him from running around the map looking for your bars. Remember, by helping someone, you first of all help yourself.

FAQ

How can I help my Medic?
Give him spare dosh, stay within a sensible distance, run toward him instead of away when badly hurt, and use perk skills such as Demolitionist's Grenadier to support him.
Why should a Berserker keep moving?
A Berserker standing still draws the Medic's healing and exposes teammates to going without a heal at a critical moment. Avoid damage you can avoid.
Where can I see teammates' health?
On the Tab scoreboard. Make sure new Medics know about it so they do not run around looking for your health bars.
