KF2 Alpha Clot Guide: Stats, Speed, Riot Variant, Tactics

This page is an English adaptation of the first part of a German ZED index series (the original guide translated the official Tripwire wiki entries). The Alpha Clot is the faster, tougher relative of the basic Clot and a familiar face from the first Killing Floor. It counts as cannon fodder, and a single one is weak, but the real danger is in numbers. Related entries in the series: Cyst, Slasher, Stalker and Crawler.

  • Melee damage multiplier against players: 0.2 / 0.4 / 0.5 / 0.6 / 0.7 / 1 (by difficulty).
  • A kill with an off-perk weapon gives XP to the perk that owns the weapon.
  • If you hurt an Alpha Clot with an on-perk weapon and finish it with an off-perk one, the XP is split evenly between the two perks.
  • Assists give the full XP.

Speed

Alpha Clots walk while calm and sprint once enraged. On higher difficulties they can start sprinting as soon as they see you, or when they are hurt. Once enraged, an Alpha Clot sprints until it dies. Speed is rolled randomly within a 10% range and then scaled by a difficulty multiplier (0.87 on Normal, 1.05 on Hell on Earth).

For comparison, a player with high health and minimal weight walks at 383 units per second and sprints at 460.

Resistances and weaknesses

Alpha Clot resistances Damage resistance overview.

Alpha Clots have few weaknesses and a few crippling resistances.

  • Damage types: piercing x1, slashing x0.85, blunt x0.9, poison x1, fire x1, microwave x0.25, explosive x1, knife slashing x1.
  • Weapon classes: submachine guns x1.5, assault rifles x1, shotguns x1, handguns x1, rifles x1. They are extremely vulnerable to SMG fire.
  • Hit zones: the head is the only weak spot (x1.1); the rest of the body is x1.

Behavior

The Alpha Clot is a predictable melee-only ZED. After spawning it walks or runs to the nearest player and tries to claw or grab and bite, which immobilizes the victim. On Suicidal and Hell on Earth it gets extra attack animations when enraged; apart from that, its behavior barely changes between difficulties.

Riot variant (Elite Alpha Clot)

Elite Alpha Clot Elite Alpha Clot, also called Albino Clot or King Clot.

An Alpha Clot can spawn as a Riot, which has white skin with blue veins. Elite Alphas have different stats and a special ability: they rally ZEDs nearby. Kill them early, before they use it. They usually weave in and out of a horde before rallying.

  • Chance to spawn as a Riot: 0 (Normal), 0 (Hard), 0.25 (Suicidal), 0.35 (Hell on Earth).
  • Rally use chance multiplier: x0.7 on Suicidal, x0.8 on Hell on Earth; cooldown 15 seconds on both.
  • Damage multiplier after rally: x2.5 on Suicidal and Hell on Earth.
  • Normally four ZEDs (including the Elite Alpha) must be within 10 meters before it rallies.
  • Elite Alpha body HP: 225 (Normal), 300 (Hard), 300 (Suicidal), 300 (Hell on Earth).
  • Elite Alpha head HP: 93 (Normal), 125 (Hard), 125 (Suicidal), 125 (Hell on Earth).
  • (*) Values when the Elite is spawned through the in-game console.

How to kill Alpha Clots

  • They die quickly to any weapon. In early waves, switch to the knife and sever heads to save ammo.
  • In later waves they fill the map and distract you from bigger threats, so remove them fast.
  • Because SMGs deal x1.5, SWAT is the best choice against large packs.
  • Watch out for grabs: if the last surviving player is held by an Alpha Clot, larger ZEDs can catch up and finish the job.
