6 Killing Floor 2 Tips for New Players: Common Mistakes to Avoid
This guide from a Spanish-speaking player lists six mistakes that the author sees constantly. Some are minor, others can lose you every game.
1. Do not upgrade the pistol
Do not upgrade the 9mm or the other starting pistol. It is money you could spend on a better weapon or, even better, give to a teammate so they can buy something they need.
2. Do not anger the Fleshpound without enough damage
A Fleshpound enters rage when damaged. Wait for the highest-damage classes, Support or Sharpshooter, to start on it, and then everyone opens fire at once. If people hit it separately, it will not die but will be angry enough to wipe the team.
3. Never stay in a closed spot
You may lose to a Husk flamethrower or kamikaze, or a Scrake or Fleshpound charge, but most of the time a group of Clots, Crawlers and Gorefasts traps you with no way out. Prevent it by always moving and avoiding places without an escape route.
4. Many weapons slow you down
The effect was stronger in KF1, but in KF2 too, more weight means slower movement, and speed is key. Carry one weapon, or at most two: one is fine with a team, two are fine when solo.
5. Skip armor in the early rounds
This is the controversial one. In a 10-wave game, spend the first three waves on weapons; constantly repairing armor wastes money, especially for a Berserker whose armor breaks fast and who already has damage reduction. Later, armor is obviously vital.
6. Leave ammo boxes to those who need them
If you play Berserker with a katana, leave the ammo box to someone who uses bullets. It seems obvious, but the author wrote the guide because people keep making all six mistakes.

FAQ
- Should I upgrade my starting pistol?
- No. The guide says upgrading the 9mm or the other starter pistol wastes money better spent on another weapon or given to a teammate who needs it.
- When should I attack a Fleshpound?
- Wait until your high-damage classes, such as Support or Sharpshooter, start hitting it, then everyone fires together. Chip damage from several people separately only angers it.
- Should I buy armor in the first waves?
- The author says no: in a 10-wave game spend the first three waves on weapons, because constantly repairing armor wastes dosh, especially for a Berserker.
