KF2 Solo Game via Console: open KF-Outpost and Other Maps

When Killing Floor 2 was in its server stress-test beta, the menu offered no solo mode, so players could not start a game by themselves. A short community guide, published in English and Russian, described a console workaround. The trick still illustrates how the open command works, and the extra parameters from the comments are useful for testing a map offline. For current ways to play alone see the solo lone agents guide.

The basic command

  1. Press the tilde key (~) to open the console.
  2. Type, without quotes: open KF-BurningParis.
  3. The map loads as a single-player session.

The same works for the other beta maps KF-BioticsLab and KF-Outpost. The author also noticed some SDK tutorial maps in the beta, but the game crashed when loading them.

Difficulty and length

A commenter added parameters to the open command, separated by question marks:

ParameterValues
Difficulty0 Normal, 1 Hard, 2 Suicidal, 3 Hell on Earth
GameLength0 Short, 1 Medium, 2 Long

Example: open KF-Outpost?Difficulty=3?GameLength=2 starts a long Hell on Earth game on Outpost. The commenter's own example used a length value of 3, but only the three values above exist for the length setting. This is for solo play and does not start a multiplayer match.

Known quirks

  • One reader reported that after using the command they could not join multiplayer games, so restart the game before going online.
  • Readers asked whether difficulty and length could be set from the menu; at the time they could not, which is why the console parameters mattered.
