KF2 Solo Berserker Guide: Win Hell on Earth on a 4-Wave Map
This guide, originally written in Polish and tuned for solo play, explains how to clear a Killing Floor 2 map on the two top difficulties (Suicidal and Hell on Earth) as Berserker. The idea: random teams rarely cope with Hell on Earth, and for the hardest achievements going alone is faster and easier. The author notes patches change values often, so details may be dated.
Why Berserker
Other perks are viable, but Berserker is durable and self-sufficient, fights in melee and does not have to run or dodge as much. The suggested skills are Fighter, Vampire, Resistance, Massacre and Spartan. Fighter's self-healing matters most: with no teammates to heal you, you will rarely need the syringe. Vampire restores 4 health per kill and helps Fighter, so pushing into the biggest group is not as scary. On Hell on Earth ZEDs are fast, so hiding is pointless. See Berserker perk.
Why solo and why 4 waves
Skip servers; solo play still counts for the achievement. Choose 4 waves: a failed run costs 10 minutes instead of 30, fewer special ZEDs appear than on a 10-wave map, and cash comes in faster. Berserkers handle hordes well anyway.
Wave 1
Wave 1 is simple. Beware the Rioter: he is fairly resistant to the shovel, so leave him for last and hit his legs, his weak spot. Do not worry about the speed boost he gives nearby ZEDs. Often crouch when fighting Crawlers. Against the Husk (here called Truchlo in the original) dodge behind cover when it fires, or jump as it shoots; leave it to last because its shots hurt other ZEDs a little, then ambush it from around a corner. A one or two hit shovel finish is usually enough, and you resist its explosion, but not its suicide blast.
Wave 2
Wave 2 is the hardest, and you can only afford a Katana. Buy only the Katana and skip armor, which is lost quickly. The Katana is faster and hits harder than the shovel. A Quarter Pound or Fleshpound can appear: if so, you rely on luck, retreating to recover when below 50% health. A charging Fleshpound calms after striking you, and then you can attack. Quarter Pounds are worse because they run in circles, in groups. A pistol does only slight damage from range. Large ZEDs are rare in wave 2, and failing here costs under 3 minutes.
Waves 3 and 4
After wave 2 you get a big cash boost. Buy an Eviscerator and fill its ammo, and keep the Katana for when fuel runs out; selling it later covers the Eviscerator upgrade, which you do after wave 3. The Pulverizer is not worth it. You could buy the gauntlets instead of the Katana, a strong weapon from the same large update that needs no ammo, though Fleshpounds can be a problem.
The Eviscerator has two modes: left click fires a blade disc, right click spins the built-in saw. Use the saw on hordes, aiming at the neck, and crouch for Crawlers. Since the summer 2018 update an ammo crate restores only 50 fuel instead of 125, so save fuel for large hordes and behead lone weak ZEDs with the Katana. Kill stronger ZEDs from range with the 30 disc shots: Fleshpounds, Quarter Pounds, Brutes (Rzeznik), Rioters, Sirens, Bloats, Husks and the Husk-type enemy. One accurate disc kills most, two a Quarter Pound, and Fleshpounds resist it most, though they are rare on 4-wave maps. Discs can be recovered, and every crate gives five. If you have spare discs at the end of a horde, spend them on regular enemies. At the end of wave 4, shoot leftover discs into walls and ground to pick up during the boss fight (not on descent-type maps).
Boss
The boss fight is relatively simple. The author likes Hans and Abomination best, then King Fleshpound; Patriarch is hardest because a single rocket can kill you, and his three heals are rarely preventable. First restock ammo and armor and buy a second Eviscerator for when discs run out and there are no crates. If you have time and cannot afford it, shoot discs around the arena and collect them later.
Standard tactics: keep your distance and shoot discs. The saw mode is no use here. Hans drops after 4 to 5 discs, so he rarely heals. Abomination is weak: shoot the belly and head and ignore his helpers; their explosions barely hurt and partly heal you. King Fleshpound exposes himself when firing his beam: crouch and send 2 to 3 strong discs to the belly, and kill Quarter Pounds as soon as they appear. Against Patriarch keep an obstacle between you and him and circle. Rockets are easy to dodge once he starts clicking his claw; try to kill him before he heals, and reload when he has about 1/3 life left so you do not run dry as he flees. After some updates he can also heal in front of you.
Summary
For the hardest achievements take Berserker with the Eviscerator, play solo on a 4-wave map. Other classes can do it too, but are less universal and struggle either with hordes, large ZEDs or the boss. This is the author's opinion and guides age fast as the game changes. FAQ
- Why play solo with a 4-wave map for hard achievements?
- Random teammates are unreliable on Suicidal and Hell on Earth. A 4-wave solo game wastes less time on a failed run, spawns fewer special ZEDs than 10 waves and earns cash faster.
- Which Berserker skills does the guide recommend?
- Fighter, Vampire, Resistance, Massacre and Spartan, with the first skill (self-healing) stressed as the key one.
- What should I buy each wave?
- A Katana after wave 2, then an Eviscerator with ammo after the cash boost, keeping the Katana as backup; buy a second Eviscerator and armor and ammo before the boss.
