Etiquette of the Killing Floor: Patience, Teaching and Dosh Manners

This guide will not improve your aim, but it is a reminder of simple manners for playing Killing Floor 2 with other people. The author admits to having made some of these mistakes and learned the hard way.

Friendship wins again meme with a Stalker and a Gorefast Meme closing the guide: friendship wins again.

Breathe

You are playing with real people, not bots. They will make mistakes just as you do, and you never have the right to mistreat someone because they "could have" saved you. If you are dying, you are probably not playing optimally either.

The author tells of nearly snapping at a teammate who ran away from him (the medic) and died, then realizing the player must have been terrified with only 5-10 health. Taking a breath and apologizing turned the match around. Next time you get frustrated, pause.

Teach and learn

Many players simply do not understand the mechanics. Be patient, but do not let yourself be run over either. If a problem player shows up, remind them gently that they are doing something that hurts the team; they may not know. For example, "Defend the point" means staying inside the zone, because kills outside it give no progress, so a Berserker's job becomes defense, not offense.

If someone refuses to change after a gentle reminder, look around. On a Normal 10-wave game at wave 10 with everyone fully geared, it does not matter. In Endless three waves in and everyone struggling, remind them they can be voted out and start a kick vote; if nobody votes, just leave.

What does harm the party

  • Welding doors that the whole party has not agreed on. Kiting is far better than holding out, and without a team set up to hold, welding can cause a total party kill.
  • Standing in the middle of a doorway, blocking shots and teammates. Body blocking is a huge issue.
  • Using leveling servers to boost your level and jump to higher difficulties. The level will not carry you; it only gives tools if your skills are up to it.

What does not harm the party

  • A medic not healing you when you think you need it, even if you are in sight.
  • Being denied dosh after spam requests.
  • Playing a class that is already on the team. Every class has options against every ZED, and telling people what class to play makes you the problem player.

Dosh, your team and you

Do not request dosh, ever. It marks you as unreliable, since everyone else needs their money for kits and upkeep. Players who join mid-game get extra cash to buy something that will do, or can spend a round on cleanup and support. If you play often with the same friends, pooling income to boost one player and then the other is fine, but never trust strangers who offer to trade; they may leave right after you give them the money.

If everyone teaches, learns and becomes self-sufficient, others will not have to suffer after us.
