KF2 XP and Difficulty Scaling: Level Table, Zed Health and Bounty

This page rewrites the numbers of an early-access era community guide to experience and scaling in Killing Floor 2. The figures were measured for that build (the Katana and Flamethrower were not yet linked to their perks and some perks did not exist), so treat them as a historical reference: current values may differ. For current perk details see Berserker levels.

XP needed per level

Each level costs more than the one before, which makes early levels fast. Harder difficulties give more XP per kill, which partly offsets this.

Rules for XP:

  • XP goes to the class of the weapon used for the kill; kills with off-perk weapons give XP to that weapon's class.
  • If you damage with one class's weapon and finish with another, the XP is split between the two classes.
  • Assist kills (you damaged the Zed but someone else killed it) award full XP.
  • A shove attack does not count as melee, so it gives XP to the class of the weapon you are holding.
  • In that build, Katana and Flamethrower gave no XP because their perks were not yet in the game.

Perk-specific bonus XP

  • Commando: bonus XP for killing Stalkers with Commando weapons. Total XP for a Stalker is 11 / 15 / 16 / 19 (bonus part 3 / 5 / 6 / 9) on Normal / Hard / Suicidal / Hell on Earth. Pistol, knife and grenade kills get no bonus unless the Zed was already damaged by an on-perk weapon.
  • Support: XP for welding every 510 HP of a door (a door usually has 1500 HP): 6 / 8 / 10 / 14 XP.
  • Medic: XP for every 20 HP healed on teammates: 2 / 2 / 3 / 4 XP.
  • Berserker: bonus XP for killing a Zed within 2 m of another player: 6 / 8 / 10 / 14 XP.

Notes: Hard is the difficulty with all scaling at default (the author sees it as the "real" Normal). The death penalty removes a percentage of your current money. Ammo and item numbers are spawn probabilities. Some Zeds have extra damage modifiers on top of the general multipliers. On Normal Zeds are slower and deal less damage; on Suicidal damaged Zeds are likely to enrage and sprint; on Hell on Earth most Zeds sprint, some dodge or roll and you take full damage from your own explosions.

The game keeps decimals for money but does not display them. At the end of a wave the money earned during the wave is split among survivors, in addition to what players earned during the wave.

Wave sizes (number of Zeds)

Wave size depends on the number of living players at the start of the wave. Examples for the long game (10 waves), Normal and Hell on Earth:

PlayersWave 1 NormalWave 10 NormalWave 1 HoEWave 10 HoE
121354271

35898116196
474124148249
585142170285
695160191321

For Hard the wave 1 numbers are 25, 50, 68, 87, 100 and 112 for 1 to 6 players; for Suicidal 32, 65, 89, 113, 130 and 146. On a long game, wave 10 on Hard is 42, 84, 115, 147, 168 and 189, and on Suicidal 54, 109, 150, 191, 218 and 245. Short (4 waves) and medium (7 waves) games use the same first waves with their own final values.

Zed health (6 players versus 1 player, body and head)

Base health scales with the number of living players for medium and large Zeds; Clots, Crawlers, Gorefasts and Stalkers stay at fixed values.

Head health on Hell on Earth (1 / 6 players): Scrake 750 / 1875, Fleshpound 813 / 2031, Husk 193 / 241, Siren 194 / 242; small Zeds' heads 20 and Bloat's 40. On Normal the Scrake head is 510 (1 player) to 1275 (6 players) and the Fleshpound head 488 to 1219. The guide notes that Hans's head has its own static health value that is enormous, so decapitating him is not realistic.

Damage multipliers by difficulty are those shown in the scaling table (Normal 0.5x for most Zeds and 0.425x for Scrake and Fleshpound, Suicidal 1.25x with Fleshpound 1.125x, Hell on Earth 1.75x for all).

FAQ

How much XP is needed to reach level 25?
In this early-version table, a total of 279,978 XP is needed for level 25, and the cost per level grows from 2,640 for level 1 to 28,993 for level 25.
Does the difficulty affect the number of Zeds?
Yes. Wave size scales with the number of living players and the difficulty; Hell on Earth uses 1.7x the Normal-hard baseline wave size multiplier while Zed damage is 175 percent.
Do shove attacks give Berserker XP?
No. A shove does not count as melee, so the XP goes to your weapon's class.
