Hellbound
The second part of The 1st Throne: level 85, Steel Citadel and the Underground Coliseum
Hellbound is the Lineage 2 update that continued The 1st Throne after Kamael. It raised the level cap to 85, added main-class skills earned by leveling subclasses, new transformations and level 81 skills, opened Steel Citadel with the raid boss Beleth, the Underground Coliseum and the monster parade on Fantasy Isle, and changed pets, alliances, quests and the interface.
The data reflects the official Hellbound update notes from lineage2.com as translated by l2db.ru (2009).
Character changes
Level cap
The maximum level of the main class was raised from 80 to 85. A subclass can still only be leveled to 80.
Main-class skills from subclasses
The main class can now learn new skills that depend on the type and level of your subclass:
| Subclass level | What you can get |
|---|---|
| 65 | One common skill (attack and defense boost) |
| 70 | One common skill (attack and defense boost) |
| 75 | Your choice: the level 2 common skill (attack, defense, physical critical rate, casting speed) or one of the special skills defined by the subclass |
| 80 | One transformation skill defined by the subclass |
- If you delete the subclass, the skills you learned through it remain.
- You can learn up to 4 such skills per subclass; with three subclasses, all 12.
How to obtain a skill
- While on the subclass, talk to your class master and receive a subclass skill certificate.
- Take the certificate to the NPC Avant-Garde in the Ivory Tower and learn the skill. You must be on your main class to learn it; the main class level does not matter.
Conditions and limits:
- You must complete the transformation quest "More Than Meets the Eye" to receive certificates.
- Certificates cannot be dropped, destroyed, traded or stored in a warehouse.
- The number of certificates is strictly limited. For example, if you got your first certificate at subclass level 65, deleting that subclass and leveling a new one to 65 will not give you another certificate for that level.
Skills by subclass type
All types share the Emergent Abilities (Physical Atk., Physical Def., Magic Atk., Magic Def.) and the Master Abilities (Attack, Empower, Casting, Focus). The special skills and the final transformation differ:
| Type | Special skills | Level 80 skill |
|---|---|---|
| Warrior | Boost CP, Resist Trait, Haste | Transformation: Divine Warrior |
| Rogue | Long Shot, Evasion, Critical Chance | Transformation: Divine Rogue |
| Knight | Boost HP, Resist Critical, Defense | Transformation: Divine Knight |
| Summoner | Increased HP/MP, Resist Attribute, Spirit | Transformation: Divine Summoner |
| Wizard | Anti-Magic, Mana Gain, Mana Steal | Transformation: Divine Wizard |
| Healer | Prayer, Divine Protection, Heal | Transformation: Divine Healer |
| Enchanter | Boost Mana, Mana Recovery, Barrier | Transformation: Divine Enchanter |
Classes by type:
| Type | Classes |
|---|---|
| Warrior | Warlord, Gladiator, Destroyer, Tyrant, Bounty Hunter, Warsmith, Berserker, Soul Breaker (male and female) |
| Rogue | Hawkeye, Silver Ranger, Phantom Ranger, Arbalester, Treasure Hunter, Plainswalker, Abyss Walker |
| Knight | Paladin, Dark Avenger, Temple Knight, Shillien Knight |
| Summoner | Warlock, Elemental Summoner, Phantom Summoner |
| Wizard | Sorcerer, Necromancer, Spellsinger, Spellhowler |

Skill reset and class transformations
- Avant-Garde in the Ivory Tower removes the special main-class skills obtained through subclasses for 10,000,000 adena. This resets the certified skills you have learned and deletes related unused items from your inventory. To get those items back, you have to return to your subclass master.
- At subclass level 80 you can obtain a transformation specific to that class and use it on your main class. To do so, complete "More Than Meets the Eye", get the level 80 certificate from the master, obtain the Transformation Sealbook and talk to Avant-Garde while on your main class.
New transformations
New regular and rare transformations were added. They become available after the quest "More Than Meets the Eye" and learning Transform - Onyx Beast. While transformed, the Soulshot particle effect and sound and the Hero aura are no longer shown.
- Regular transformations (warrior, magician and others) are meant for characters of level 70-80 and work like a special job class: one can heal, another casts magic, the rest have various warrior skills. The transformation book drops while hunting, and the skill is learned from the transformation magician Avant-Garde.
- Rare transformations are better suited for combat. The book drops from a special monster, and the skill is learned from Avant-Garde.
| Rare transformation | Minimum level |
|---|---|
| Zaken | 60 |
| Anakim | 70 |
| Benom | 70 |
| Gordon | 76 |
| Ranku | 76 |
| Kechi | 76 |
| Demon Prince | 76 |

Changes to existing skills
- Magic skills were strengthened: skills learned before the third class change can be raised to level 30, those learned after it to level 15.
- Fixed incorrect MP recovery at some spell levels when Sweeper was enchanted on the Power route.
- Over the Body now requires more than 80% CP and consumes CP when used.
- Divine Power's duration was shortened, and the HP restored by Heal was greatly increased.
- The attack radius of Shoulder Charge, Blade Rush and Storm Assault was increased at some levels.
- Seed of Fire, Seed of Water and Seed of Wind now increase fire, water and wind elemental P. Atk. respectively.
- Final Form's P. Atk., M. Atk., P. Def. and M. Def. were greatly increased.
- Aggression and Hate Aura got an extra effect that binds the target to you for 3 seconds.
- Aura Symphony, Inferno, Blizzard, Demon Wind, Elemental Assault, Elemental Symphony and Elemental Storm no longer require gathering elemental energy; their reuse time and power were changed.
- Magic Resistance, Magic Immunity and Anti Magic now also increase resistance to magic attacks.
- The Overlord's clan protection now also affects the pets and servitors of clan members.
- The SP needed to learn skills was changed for some Kamael classes.
- Harmony of Noblesse and Symphony of Noblesse became temporary effects usable only during sieges.
- Counter Chance, Counter Rapid Shot, Counter Dash and Counter Mind became passive (the effect is unchanged). If a crossbow is equipped while Counter Rapid Shot is active, attack speed increases.
- After level 40, Blunt Mastery lowers MP consumption and raises stun chance, and Dagger Mastery lowers MP consumption and raises critical chance.
- Enchant routes changed: Aggression and Hate Aura moved from Enchant Additional Defense to Enchant Additional Attack (decreases the target's P. Atk.); Shield Stun moved from Elemental Break Fire/Water/Wind/Earth to Elemental Reduce Fire/Water/Wind/Earth (weakens the target's elemental resistance).
- The Exp. and SP needed to enchant skills was changed.
- Seal of Blockade got a shorter duration and longer reuse time, but the target takes extra damage.
- The Kamael passive Guilted Body now reduces HP bonuses by 5% instead of 30%: a +1,000 HP bonus gives a Kamael 950 HP instead of 700.
- Skill and item reuse times are now shown in system messages.
- Bugs fixed: Dance of Light increased the Holy attribute; Exp. was not fully restored for a low-WIT class using a secondary weapon; Harmony of Noblesse and Symphony of Noblesse did not work for the owners of Bandit Stronghold and Beast Farm during battles; skill effects of riders on mounts were shown incorrectly.
Pets and servitors
All pets can now be raised to level 86. The pet manager NPC got a guide with tips on raising your pet.
- Fenrir. A Great Wolf above level 70 can be turned into a Fenrir at the pet manager.
- Improved baby pets. Baby Buffalo, Kookaburra and Cougar of level 55 or higher can be turned into improved pets that cast buffs on their owner.
- Clan hall pets. Members of clans owning clan halls in Rune and Aden can exchange pets with the Clan Hall Gatekeeper outside the hall: Great Wolf for Great Snow Wolf, Fenrir for Snow Fenrir, and Strider for Red Star, Red Dusk or Red Wind Strider. These pets have unique skills and a higher riding speed.
- They can be used only while the clan owns the hall; they are exchanged back at Pet Trader Mickey in the Town of Aden and Rune Township. The collars of the Great Snow Wolf, Snow Fenrir and Red Striders cannot be dropped, traded or sold.
- Servitor attributes. The Warlock, Phantom Summoner, Elemental Summoner and their third classes pass their weapon attribute to the servitor: when the weapon attribute matches the servitor's, the servitor gets 80% of its value. The bonus applies only to attack, not defense, and does not work under an equipment grade penalty or when the attributes do not match.
- A Wolf's pet weapon can be upgraded to Great Wolf level, and a Great Wolf's weapon to Fenrir level, at the pet manager.
- Combat messages are now shown for pets and servitors, and instant herbs work on pets.
Alliances
- The waiting time before creating a new alliance after dissolving one was cut from 10 days to 1 day (24 hours).
- The clan leader no longer suffers an Exp. penalty when an alliance is dissolved.
- During castle sieges, alliance members are no longer marked as friendly forces, can mark enemies, and do not have to dissolve the alliance when on opposite sides.
- When a clan captures the Holy Artifact, all its friendly clans count as castle forces, but they do not become defenders automatically and are moved to the starting point outside the castle.
- Alliances can declare war on each other, and you can join an alliance with a clan that is already at war.
- An alliance owning a castle can join the Revolutionaries of Dusk in the Seven Signs. If the Revolutionaries of Dusk control the Seal of Strife, alliance members cannot defend the castle: when the siege begins, the registration of all defending clans except the owner is cancelled.

22 new quests were added. In the new quests for levels 30-40, a character 6 or more levels above the quest level receives a smaller reward.

Hunting grounds
Steel Citadel
The powerful raid boss Beleth lives in the castle of Steel Citadel. It is a very dangerous area made of several parts: the Base Tower, Tower of Infinitum, Tully's Workshop and Tower of Naia. To enter the citadel you must earn the trust of the Hellbound inhabitants by helping them.
| Part | Description |
|---|---|
| Base Tower | A two-floor labyrinth you must pass to reach the Tower of Infinitum. Requires a high level of trust from the Hellbound inhabitants |
| Tower of Infinitum | Home of the raid bosses Demon Prince and Ranku. You must complete the tower's mission to reach Tully's Workshop |
| Tully's Workshop | An eight-floor workshop with the raid monster Darion; you must defeat him to enter the Tower of Naia |
| Tower of Naia | The raid monster Epidos and the raid boss Beleth. A pass-through dungeon where each mission must be completed within a time limit |
If you disconnect inside the Base Tower, Tower of Infinitum or Tully's Workshop, you have 10 minutes to reconnect; otherwise you are moved to the oasis near Steel Citadel.
Changes to existing areas
- Rewards for monsters on Primeval Isle were greatly increased.
- The damage zone near Core was made slightly stronger; Core's minions return to their positions if they move too far from the boss.
- Fixed the incorrect rewards of the special Magic Barrier monsters in Hellbound.
- Shade, the Dark Water Dragon's servant, no longer revives after a certain number of deaths; fixed the Dark Water Dragon not fighting back while Shade was being attacked.
- The NPCs Jirrone, Buron and Bernarde now tell more about Hellbound.
- The room where Baylor was defeated disappears 5 minutes after his death.
- The number of monsters in the Chromatic Highlands was adjusted.
Fantasy Isle: Monster Parade and the Underground Coliseum
Monster Parade
Several times per game day, an NPC parade on Fantasy Isle goes through every area of the island, showing every type of NPC you can meet in the lands of Aden and Elmore. The costumes differ between the morning and evening parades. The parade monsters and NPCs are alternative versions of familiar creatures and heroes: they sing, perform team tricks and hold a talent show.
Underground Coliseum
A new PvP arena with death-match rules. You can get there for free through the teleporter on Fantasy Isle and through teleporters in towns other than the starting ones.
- Registration is always open, with no limit on how often you enter. The leader of a 7-member party registers the team with the NPC Admission Manager; matches go in queue order.
- The winning team keeps fighting the next challengers.
- Before registration, each member picks a starting spot in the party window; that is where they appear after being teleported to the Coliseum.
- When the game starts, a resurrection tower appears: killed players return to the fight next to it. If the tower is destroyed, automatic resurrection stops, but you can still be resurrected with a skill or an item.
Victory conditions:
- The team with more kills wins.
- With equal kills, the team with fewer deaths wins.
- If everything is equal, the team that registered first wins.
- A team wins early by killing every member of the opposing team.
There are five coliseums, and a player enters the one matching their level: 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70-79 and one with no level limit.
Interface
- A quest tracker was added: select an active quest in the quest window (Alt+U) and press Notification at the bottom. Up to 5 quests can be tracked at once.
- Default shortcut commands can now be reassigned.
- Bulk selling was moved out of the main shop window into a separate action.
- In the skill window (Alt+K), passive skills are grouped under collapsible headers instead of a separate Passive Skills window.
- Combat messages show the names of the attacker and defender, magic details and more depending on the situation.
- Olympiad: notifications were added; the Olympiad Manager announces the arena number 60 seconds before a match, and Watch Match shows the status of every arena.
- A slider limits the number of characters and NPCs shown on screen.
