Kamaloka: party and solo instances

Leveling instances with a boss and a Vitality-based reward

Kamaloka is a special leveling location: a room completely hidden from outsiders, which a party enters through special NPCs. In the middle of the room stands a monster that differs from ordinary "leveling meat" above all by its enormous HP pool. Below are the party Kamalokas, solo Kamaloka (as on the Russian official server) and the Labyrinth of Abyss.

What Kamaloka is

The monster in the level 43 Kamaloka has 209 thousand HP - comparable to a mid-range raid boss of the same level. Its physical and magical defense roughly match a raid boss of its level, but its physical attack is rather weak: in a number of instances you can do without a healer. Keep in mind, though, that in some Kamalokas the bosses summon helpers - from 1 to 15 of them, with all kinds of abilities, from healing the boss to sleep and paralysis.

The monster also gives raid-boss-level experience, with a nice twist: each participant's XP depends on their accumulated Vitality (called "Life Energy" on the Russian official server). The reward can amount to practically a whole level for characters 20+. However, you can successfully kill the Kamaloka monster no more than once a day.

Rules:

  • After a failure, or if someone used SoE during the "raid", a new attempt can be made immediately.
  • If all party members died, on re-entry the monster has full HP and the kill timer is reset.
  • If at least one party member is alive and still inside, the others should hurry back and continue the fight - the clock keeps ticking. A character who died inside can return through the Captain.
  • You have 30 minutes to kill the monster; warnings appear on screen when 10, 5 and 1 minute remain.
  • After the boss is dead, leave via SoE or restart.

How to enter

The NPCs that send a party into Kamaloka stand in different towns. On the town map they are marked with the blue Guard Captain icon.

At the time of writing there were no Kamalokas for higher-level characters.

  • The party gathers near the right Captain, the leader chooses "Enter Kamaloka" in the dialogue and then the desired Kamaloka - the party is instantly moved inside.
  • If even one party member's level does not fit the chosen Kamaloka, the party is not let in.
  • On entry, all buffs and debuffs are removed from everyone except those from the Newbie Guide and Adventurer's Guide, so buff up once inside.
  • On death a character loses the usual amount of experience. SoE, Party Return and other teleport skills return you to the town you entered from.
  • The monster usually drops enchant scrolls, whole items and item parts.
  • Go into Kamaloka with as small a group as possible: experience is split equally, and the number of these monsters is unlimited. Two parties of 3 visiting separately are better than one party of 6.

Kamalokas by level

Kamaloka 23: Kaneus - Tomlan Kamos (Bugbear)

Tomlan Kamos

Nothing special: it just hits with a club; its only ability is a 10-20 second stun. A group of 2-3 without a healer kills it under the newbie buffs. A party of 6 with a tank and a healer manages even without soulshots.

Kamaloka 26: Kaneus - Ol Ariosh (Ol Mahum)

Ol Ariosh

Barely different from its "colleague" in Kamaloka 23. Its only distinguishing feature is that it periodically summons a single minion to help it attack; the minion dies very quickly. 2-4 people are enough, though you may take a healer just in case.

Kamaloka 33: Kaneus - Crimson Hatu Otis (Undead Bear)

Crimson Hatu Otis

Home of a battered but very angry bear. Tested: two Dwarves and a healer can kill it. It does not hit hard; its main weapon is an area attack that it casts from time to time, dealing heavy damage to everyone around. The attack is easy to predict from the animation - just step away while it is being cast; the boss will not chase anyone.

Kamaloka 36: Kaneus - Seer Flaorus (Flying Eye)

Seer Flaorus

Killed by 2-4 fighters, even without a healer. It periodically summons minions, but they die quickly and pose no serious threat. Magic: Drain Health and Aura Flare.

Kamaloka 43: Kaneus - Mutant Stakato

Mutant Stakato

Low defense and low attack - at first it looks like easy prey, but only until about 60% HP. Then healing minions start popping out of it one after another. They respawn very quickly and killing them all is impossible - up to 6-7 minions can be in the room at once. That is why a healer or another mage with Sleep is strictly required here. Their job is not to attack the boss or heal the party (that is not needed), but to keep all the minions asleep at all times.

Kamaloka 46: Kaneus - Dragon (Ice Dragon)

Dragon

Much easier to kill than the previous boss - a party of 4 can do it. The boss's main skill is a peculiar analogue of Seal of Blockade, even more interesting: under it you cannot do anything, but you cannot be attacked either. It also has an area Hydroblast. Kill it by simply shooting it down while healing the party from time to time.

Kamaloka 53: Kaneus - Demon

Demon

A medium-difficulty instance. The demon can knock weapons out of your hands like the Kamael, uses Drain Health and summons minions that explode next to players for 500-600 damage, and up to 3,250 with critical hits. A healer is mandatory.

Kamaloka 56: Kaneus - Dark Knight

Dark Knight

A fairly hard instance: a knight with solid P. Def who summons unkillable panthers (like the Dark Avenger's). You need a good tank, a healer (who will not switch into a transformation) and 3 damage dealers. Tactics: the tank pulls the panthers with Hate and keeps running in circles while the damage dealers beat the boss.

Kamaloka 63: Kaneus - Venomous Storace (Naga)

Venomous Storace

A rather difficult boss. It constantly summons attacking minions that commit suicide after 25 seconds, transferring all their remaining health to the boss. So the party must have a mage who can kill each minion within those 25 seconds.

Kamaloka makes life noticeably easier for newer players: you do not have to compete with other players, camp the monster's respawn or do other tedious things.

Solo Kamaloka (Russian official server)

Solo Kamaloka (Rim Kamaloka), also known in the Russian localization as "Okrestnosti Kamaloki" (Kamaloka Outskirts) or "Zal Koshmarov" (Hall of Nightmares), is a temporary zone that only one player can enter, no more than once every 14 hours 30 minutes. If you are in a party or have already been there within that period, entry is closed. On the Russian official server a premium account is required.

  • Inside you fight a large number of monsters; kills are often followed by the appearance of an especially aggressive monster. The main goal is to kill as many of those as possible.
  • After 20 minutes a Pathfinder NPC (the same one that sends you in) appears in the middle of the room. It gives a reward based on your result - a rank from F to S (rank F gets nothing) - plus either Pathfinder equipment or Kanabion Essences.
  • Newbie buffs, clan hall buffs, buffs from support players and self-buffs are kept on entry - unlike party Kamaloka, where all positive effects except newbie buffs are removed.
  • Monsters drop no adena, but you can get armor enchant scrolls of various grades and tonics that restore HP and MP or give short buffs (up to 5 minutes).
  • Dopplers and Voids (upgraded monster versions in solo Kamaloka) can use an ability similar to the Orc Frenzy at low HP.
  • If you die, you can enter again, but the timer is not reset.

Labyrinth of Abyss (Kamaloka - Labyrinth of Abyss)

A new leveling instance that has nothing to do with the other Kamalokas. Labyrinths are available at levels 29, 39, 49, 59, 69 and 78; characters within 5 levels may enter.

  • A new day starts at 6:30 AM server time, when the instance is reset.
  • Killing the boss awards Kamaloka Essence.

The labyrinth has four floors (despite the name, you cannot get lost):

  1. A crowd of "fat" aggressive monsters - their HP is somewhere between x8 monsters and weak raid bosses. They give no experience and drop nothing.
  2. Five similar fat monsters, probably mages. Killing them gives nothing either.
  3. One fat monster with a strong attack - this one gives experience.
  4. A full raid boss with guards. It gives experience, drops items, weapons, item parts and enchant scrolls, and restores Vitality.

You can leave the lower-floor monsters alone and carefully sneak past along the walls or "under a BD" (Blade Dancer), but some believe that clearing the lower rooms weakens the raid boss and makes it easier to kill.
