Game Development Stack Builder
Pick team size, budget, platforms, graphics, multiplayer and business model: get a layered toolchain from engine to store, with why each tool fits, pricing, pros and cons, alternatives to swap in and a monthly cost estimate.
How to use
- Start from a preset (solo pixel art, mobile F2P, 3D co-op, AA Unreal, game jam, web, VR, narrative) or fill in the profile.
- Leave the engine on Recommend one or pin the engine you already use.
- Review each layer: why the tool fits, pricing, pros and cons; swap in an alternative with one click.
- Export the stack or copy a share link for your team.
Choosing a stack
Pick the engine first and let it decide the rest: language, editor and many plugins follow from it. Prefer tools your team already knows over a slightly better tool nobody has used.
Start with free tiers and move up only when a limit actually hurts. Version control and backups are the exception: set them up on day one.

FAQ
- How are tools chosen?
- Each tool in the catalog has engines, platforms, team sizes, graphics, multiplayer models, cost and difficulty. Tools that cannot work with your engine or platforms are filtered out; the rest are scored on team fit, budget, experience and matching tags (art style, F2P, VR, open source), and the best one per layer is shown with up to three alternatives.
- Why is a service missing?
- Services that shut down (for example Hathora in 2026) are excluded, and layers you do not need are hidden: multiplayer hosting appears only for online games, monetization SDKs only for free-to-play.
- How accurate are the prices?
- Prices are entry tiers checked in 2026; most are marked approximate. Vendors change plans often, so confirm on the linked page before buying.
- Can I share the result?
- Yes: Copy share link stores your answers and swaps in the URL, and you can export the stack as Markdown or JSON.
