KF2 Ana Larive Notes Part 2: Horzine Tests and History

This is the second part of the fan diary of Ana Larive, a Killing Floor 2 Mercenary. Here she talks about the tests she passed to get an invitation, her doubts about Horzine, and her version of the history of the outbreak. Everything is fan fiction. Part 1 is on the previous page.

The recruitment tests

Some people think Horzine has an endless stream of mercenaries and takes everyone. Ana disagrees. To get an invitation she had to pass many strange tests of physical, mental and inner strength: will, desire to live, character and similar qualities. There are no better or worse results and no familiar grades, so it is a mystery what they pay attention to. She guesses they look for purposeful people who are ready to go to the end of the war, even if "war" is not what you would call it.

Experiments

Ana first thought "they" take anyone since death is not selective. Rumors among the applicants say there is more to the choice than tests, and she thinks that is closer to the truth. Horzine is a biotech corporation that cares only about its own benefit, so it will look first for people who are easy to influence. She believes the company will upgrade mercenaries when needed, since they are expendable and experimental material. Few dare to inject a bright green, ice-cold substance that hardly resembles blood or to replace their eyes with something else. She does not know the details because the contract leaves them blurry.

Leaving the job

Some mercenaries survive and are released into the free world, and the leadership even approves it. Ana met one of them, a crippled soul. They are forbidden to share information, and she cannot imagine what it takes to be let go. The chances are small, and Ana does not plan to leave, because she knows it is a one way ticket.

The state of the world

Hell moves over land, water, air and even space at unprecedented speed, but life goes on, thanks to instigators, dissidents, inspirers and everyone who fights for the world. Some call Horzine evil incarnate, and she will not argue, but the question is deeper and less clear than it looks.

The first invasions

Even before she was born there were "invasions" and thousands of innocent victims. Ana asks whether it all began in London, Great Britain, where attacks could be contained inside the country. Then something unexpected happened, and mainland Europe became the next victim. This was called the new invasion of the Zeds, and many called them a new generation of creatures. She says the photographs she has seen were beyond anything she knew.

Horzine history

The story goes that Horzine has roots in World War II. Nobody knows exactly what they did then, but their stated mission remains "improving and expanding the boundaries of the physical and mental potential of mankind and the world". Ana admits that what they built is amazing: they accelerated science and created new fields, mainly biotechnology and bioengineering. In recent decades they expanded into space development, with stations, ships and satellites, and they certainly keep many secrets. Their biotech spread worldwide: new vision, organs, implants, strength, mental abilities, gene and DNA changes, artificial organisms. Some call it interference with human nature, others see it as an inevitable part of progress. People have always feared the unknown, and the question is what hides in the darkness beyond human consciousness.

Last day of training

Ana says these questions never bothered her, but they always held some interest, like something forbidden. Tomorrow is the last day of training before the verdict on her application. She suspects the tests are a show for the public, and that Horzine needs any people and forces it can get, which means the elite units are doing worse than the company says. She bets a hundred Dosh on it.
