KF2 Ana Larive Notes Part 1: Joining Horzine

This is the first part of a fan-written diary for Ana Larive, one of the Mercenaries in Killing Floor 2. The notes are in her own voice and describe the moment she decides to work for Horzine. They are fan fiction built on the official character card, not canon.

Character card

Ana Larive's profile: female, age 29, French, born in Lens, France; part-time photographer and waitress; likes ruins, photography and death metal; dislikes macho men, rules and euro-pop.

The decision

Ana says she never cared much about other people, and when the world fell into hell and the apocalypse took countless lives, it blew the roof off. She wonders whether this is what she wanted all her life. She wants to capture the moment and never forget it, because she has nothing left to lose. She stands at the foot of the "dark kingdom" of Horzine and decides to become a mercenary. Death does not scare her, and the freedom to destroy has never been more accessible.

The money

The mercenaries are well paid. A single job pays more than three months of waitressing, and one can never have too much Dosh, she jokes, because concerts are now expensive and there are fewer of them. On the other hand, there are many more abandoned buildings to explore.

Her view of Horzine

Rumors about Horzine are everywhere, and even after they were exposed the company remains the leader of the world. In her view, they started the disaster and only they can end it. Monopolies never end well: once Horzine led every area of human life, the harm they caused outweighed the benefits. Still, more and more people want to work for them. For many the choice is to die or adapt, and the world has confirmed its dependence on the corporation. Ana never cared much about this.

She expects to be cannon fodder, but maybe she will survive and even become a Horzine Trooper. She is ready to see what the next day brings.
