KF2 Black Screen with Music: Windowed Mode and Offline Trick

A short Russian-language guide for players stuck on a black screen with menu music in Killing Floor 2. The fix is an unusual trick: the game finishes authorization when the internet is briefly cut during the black screen. It comes with limitations, so read the notes first.

What to expect

After the fix you will not see the inventory and the shop, but online play, the storage (Vault) and perk leveling will work.

After entering the profile you may hit an endless loading screen when creating your own game or searching for a random match. To fix it, open the server browser, choose a server and enter its lobby, then go back to the menu. Everything should work after that.

Before starting, the author advises turning off any blocking tools and VPNs you may have.

The fix

1. Before launching, open the game's properties in Steam and add -windowed to the launch options.
2. Start the game with the internet on and wait for the black screen with music.
3. Minimize the game, go to Network and Internet, Advanced settings, turn the internet off, wait a few seconds and turn it on again.

Congratulations: the black screen disappears and your Steam avatar appears in the game. Switch the game to borderless windowed mode and remove the earlier launch option in Steam.

Result

You now know how to remove the black screen and authorize. The internet has to be cut on every game launch, but it works.
