KF2 Dedicated Server with a GUI Launcher: Quick Setup
This page follows a Brazilian Portuguese Steam guide (translated here) that describes the fastest way to host a Killing Floor 2 dedicated server: a downloadable graphical launcher, so you do not type commands or edit configuration files by hand. If you prefer the classic route, see KF2 Dedicated Server via SteamCMD or the home server walkthrough with port forwarding.
Step by step
- Open the ports on your router (modem).
| Port | Protocol | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| 7777 | UDP | Server (game) port |
| 27015 | UDP | Master server port |
| 8080 | TCP | Web Admin |
| 20560 | UDP | Steam port |
- Download the server launcher from the GitHub link given in the original guide.
- Extract the files to the root of your
C:drive and install the dependencies and the server. - Start the launcher from the install folder:
kf2_ds\HorzineDedicatedServer.exe. - Configure the server with your preferences (name, passwords, map, difficulty and so on).
- Click Launch Server and wait for the server to start.
- Invite your friends and play.
Important note
Allow the server through the Windows firewall, otherwise it will not work correctly for other players. Remember that port forwarding on the router is separate from the firewall rule on the PC: both must be in place for friends outside your network to connect.
FAQ
- Which ports must be forwarded for a KF2 dedicated server?
- UDP 7777 (server port), UDP 27015 (master server/query port), TCP 8080 (WebAdmin) and UDP 20560 (Steam port).
- Do I need to edit config files with this method?
- No. The launcher is a graphical tool where you set preferences and press Launch Server, so no commands or manual config editing are required.
