KFRPG Server Fundamentals: XP, Perks, Pets and Turrets
KFRPG is a heavily modded Killing Floor 2 server that adds levels, prestige, a custom perk tree, pets, player-built turrets and extra weapons. This guide collects the basics a newcomer needs before joining. At the time of writing (2017) the server was reached with the console command OPEN 70.42.74.127:7777, and news was posted in the KF-RPG Steam group; the address may have changed since.
XP: how to get it and spend it
XP comes from tagging ZEDs. One point of damage is enough to count as a tag, killing is not required, and every player who tagged a ZED gets the same amount.
Press Esc in-game on the KFRPG server and open the modded Perks menu, then the "Perk" tab.
The Perk tab of the KFRPG menu.
Every level gives perk points that you spend on class perks and traits. Choosing a different class on the left lets you view and edit that class's points, and this is also how you switch class in-game.
Perk points are shown per class.
Prestige
At level 200 you reach your first Prestige. The Prestige button resets the character so you can level from the start again, but each level on the next run grants one extra perk point, so your total pool grows. Prestige appears as a prefix to your level, for example "4-125" is Prestige 4, level 125. The current maximum Prestige is listed in the news section of the game menu.
Prestige resets your level and adds a perk point per level.
- Unload Perk refunds all spent perk points while keeping level and Prestige. It costs some XP, but is worth it after a mistake.
- Reset Level is drastic: it sends you back to level 0 and Prestige 0.
Use Unload Perk to re-allocate points, not Reset Level.
Waves and the endless wave
Each map has 7 standard waves balanced to the number of players, then one Boss wave (also balanced), then a final Endless wave. The Endless wave keeps spawning ZEDs until all players are dead or a map vote passes (type !mapvote in chat).
- No new player can join once the Endless wave starts.
- Players can respawn for $10,000.
- Money can still be gained while dead if one of your turrets is alive and loaded.
- Kills keep counting up and the spawn limit is infinite.
The Endless wave counts kills without a spawn limit.
Regen perks
There are three: Ammo, Health and Armor Regeneration. Before Prestige 1 you can have only one. At Prestige 1 a second regen unlocks, but only after level 100. At Prestige 5 and above a third unlocks at level 150.

Ammo Regeneration refills ammo of all weapons up to their caps (not hand grenades). Health and Armor Regeneration restore a portion of health or armor up to the cap.
Common perks
- Survivability: Movement Speed, Health, Armor, Toxic Resistance (Bloat bile), Sonic Resistance (Siren, not Knockout), Fire Resistance (Husks).
- DPS: Perk Damage, Fire Recoil, Perk Rate of Fire, Perk Reload Time, Magazine Capacity, Max Ammo, Off-Perk Damage.
- Gameplay: Redemption, Grenade Upgrade, Carry Capacity, Grenade Capacity, Knockout Resistance, Retaliation, Knockback Resistance, Auto-fire Weapons, Bunny Hop, Nightvision, Duracell Batteries.
Class-specific perks
- Berserker: Max Health (the only class that reaches 500: 100 plus 400 from the perk), ZED Damage Reduction, Fake Out (cannot be grabbed), Vampire (heal on melee kills), ZED-Time Spartan (free movement in ZED time).
- Commando: Cloak Detection (reveals nearby cloaked ZEDs to the team), Ammo Supply (periodically gives ammo to others, you gain XP).
- Medic: Heal Efficiency, Airborne Agent (health boost and area heal from darts in ZED time), Armor Repair.
- Support: Ammo Supply.
- Demolitionist: Self Damage Reduction, Explosive Weld (broken welds explode), Explode on Contact, Grenade Supply.
- Firebug: Self Damage Reduction, ZED Damage Reduction, Fire Explosion (burning ZEDs may explode), Extra Fire Range.
- Gunslinger: ZED-Time Uberammo, ZED-Time Fanfire, Rack 'em Up (more damage per consecutive headshot).
- Sharpshooter: Rack 'em Up, ZED-Time Ranger (headshots stun in ZED time).
- SWAT: ZED Damage Reduction, Heavy Armor (blocks all ZED damage except Siren screams), Tactical Movement, ZED-Time SWAT Enforcer.
- Survivalist: Superior Off-perk Damage (highest, +1250%), Grenade Supply, Sentry Turret Hammer (starts with the turret hammer).
Pets
At level 50 you can buy the Monster Tongue perk (it also needs 30 points in Perk Damage), which gives you an auto-respawning pet. Pets do not spawn in Endless waves, can be healed, absorb Medic darts (which can get in the way of healing players), tag ZEDs for you, and their kills count as yours.
| Monster Tongue level | Pet |
|---|---|
| 1 | Crawler King / Clot AlphaKing |
| 2 | Gorefast DualBlade |
| 3 | Husk |
| 4 | Scrake |
| 5 | Fleshpound |
| 6 (Prestige 25) | Tyrant |
Modded weapons
M79 Medic Launcher, M79 Frost Launcher, Horzine AK12, Tigris, Galantine, Flaming Katana and Horzine Grenade Pistol. Primed weapons are the strongest version of a weapon and can never be dropped.
Turrets
Buy the Sentry Turret hammer (it looks like the Pulverizer), equip it and read the on-screen help. Hold alternate fire to preview the turret, release it to place. Watch the bottom of the screen for messages: too close to another turret, or the 12-turret map limit.
- Primary fire with the hammer heals any turret; alternate fire on a turret destroys (sells) it, so be careful.
- Stand on a turret and press E ("Accept Objective") to open its menu with Levels, Upgrades and Ammunition.
- Anyone can upgrade, resupply and repair anyone's turret.
- Turrets generate XP tags and dosh. They count as off-perk for all classes, so Off-Perk Damage improves them.
- If you place a turret where you can no longer reach it, you must disconnect and reconnect to remove it.

ZED announcements
- "By fire be purged" - Husk
- "Meeeat" - Meatgrinder
- "I am power incarnate" - Tyrant
- "Now you feel pain" - Puke Pus
- "You are not prepared" - King Tyrant
- Foghorn sound - Golden Clot spawn
- "It's me!" - Gilded Clot spawn
Events and event maps
An event is the spawn of Golden Clots, announced by a loud horn. An event map has an unusually high number of events each wave. Golden Clots are worth the most XP in the game, so tag one fast; if nobody kills it quickly it despawns and nobody gets XP.
Tag Golden Clots as soon as they spawn.
FAQ
- How do you earn XP on the KFRPG server?
- By tagging ZEDs. A single point of damage counts as a tag, you do not need the kill, and everyone who tags a ZED receives the same XP.
- What happens at level 200?
- You reach your first Prestige. Pressing Prestige resets the character to the start, but each level then grants one additional perk point, raising your total perk points.
- How many turrets can be on the map?
- A maximum of 12 turrets at a time, and a new one cannot be placed too close to another turret.
