KF2 Voice Mod: PAYDAY Dallas for DJ Scully (V1-V3)

This custom voice mod replaces the in-game voice of DJ Scully in Killing Floor 2 with more than 200 lines from Dallas, a heister from the PAYDAY games. The guide that describes it is a short manual with download versions and the modder's notes. It is a sound mod only; nothing about the gameplay changes.

Voice line coverage

The mod provides lines for most actions:

  • Voice command panel (request healing, follow me, thank you, taunt ZEDs and so on).
  • Hit and kill confirmation reactions against ZEDs.
  • Reloading and welding interactions.
  • Idle lines (just spawned, cave, dark, cold and foggy areas) and lines before a wave starts, with replies to other characters.
  • Throwing dosh, healing teammates and getting hit by ZEDs.

Some lines are left out (level-up and objective mode lines in the early versions, because they are rarely used).

Versions

  • V1 - standard lines.
  • V2 - better sound quality of Dallas' battle cry and the Berserker's ZED Time rage, plus changes to some of the lines heard when hitting or killing with bullet-type weapons.
  • V3 (final) - added or updated most lines: the common ones such as welding, unwelding, ZED spotted and kill lines; idle quotes taken from the recent PAYDAY safehouse lines (skip this version if you do not want spoilers for that story chapter); objective mode lines in case Tripwire uses them officially; and a Scrake call, reusing PAYDAY 2's Medic spot call since Scrake counts as a Medic for the ZEDs in the lore.

A later Version 4 was published on the Steam Workshop; this guide was kept as the history version.

Installation

  1. Download the version you want from the links in the original guide (they pointed to Dropbox, and a commenter later reported the V3 link had broken at one point). Read the text file inside the zip.
  2. Paste the extracted Published folder into My Documents/My Games/KillingFloor2/KFGame.
  3. To uninstall, delete WWise_Default Dj Scully.bnk from the same folder.

Modder's notes

Producing the mod meant ripping the voice lines one by one, learning the Wwise platform, asking other modders and a Tripwire staff member for ready-to-use project files, and many hours of troubleshooting. The initial limit of 200 sound lines per sound bank was lifted by the author's access to an unlimited Wwise account for a period, which allowed more than 200 lines in V3. Tripwire removed most text files describing the game's sound files in December 2017, which kept other modders from making new voice mods. The author mentions this mod as a revival of an older mod from 2015, when the game went into Early Access.
