KF2 Support Guide: Roles, Shotguns, Skills and Team Position
This page restates a Support guide written by a player experienced with the class in both Killing Floor games. It covers what the perk is for, which guns to buy, which skills to choose and where to stand.
Basic roles
- Support the team. Give them ammo each wave, which saves a considerable amount of dosh, and armor too, which may save them in intense combat and again saves money.
- Despite the name, you are also the main killer of big ZEDs, especially Scrakes. You have the strong weapons to dispose of Scrakes easily, and of Fleshpounds only with the team's focused firepower; you cannot take a Fleshpound alone on Suicidal or Hell on Earth.
Weapons of choice
Ranked by the author:
- AA-12. Not the highest damage per shot, but it dishes out bullets quickly. At level 25 you can kill any ZED with one or two shots, and even without the Tight Choke skill you can shoot distant targets with ease.
- M4 Combat Shotgun. Higher damage than the AA-12 and an even faster fire rate, but considerably less ammo. Still a good choice.
- SG 500 Pump-Action. Your starting weapon. Low rate of fire, decent damage and it costs nothing. Aim for the head.
- Double-barreled Shotgun. The most damage per shot, but only two shells before you must reload, and you must press R, it does not auto-reload like in KF1. It has the highest stumble power and can stop any ZED except a Fleshpound when you use alt-fire.
The author considers the other shotguns not as good. In the comments another player argued that the Dragonsbreath is a great budget shotgun for waves 2 or 3 from level 15 up, because of penetration and killing groups of small ZEDs with one or two shots, and better than the SG 500.
Skill configuration
The author calls this arguably the most important part of KF2.
| Tier | Choices | Author's pick and why |
|---|---|---|
| Ammo management | +50% magazine capacity (not 50% of total ammo) or faster reload | Magazine capacity is better |
| Training | Fortitude (+50 HP, not armor) or Salvo (+30% damage; at level 25 up to 55% total) | Salvo: you are a big ZED killer, not a tank, and it helps leveling |
| Firepower | Armor Piercing Shot (more penetration, less damage reduction through ZEDs) or Tight Choke (spread -50%) | Armor Piercing Shot, but either is fine |
| Logistics | Resupply Pack (ammo and armor for teammates each wave) or Concussion Rounds (150% more stumble power, for solo) | Resupply Pack; it is what makes you the Support |
| Advanced Training | Penetrator (perk weapons penetrate all targets during Zed Time) or Barrage (perk weapons fire at about 90% of real time during Zed Time) | Barrage |
With Penetrator you take no damage reduction during Zed Time, but to use it well you must line up as many ZEDs as possible before shooting. With Barrage you can dish out almost a whole 30-round AA-12 magazine at a sprinting Scrake or Fleshpound, or take down a bunch of small ZEDs in the short Zed Time. A commenter notes that Penetration (Armor Piercing Shot) is a safe pick since nobody needs accuracy, and that faster reload is good if you use the M4 a lot.
Your place in the team
Stand behind the Berserker and in front of the Sharpshooter. Priority targets are Scrakes, then Gorefasts, then Fleshpounds. With so little ammo, line ZEDs up before firing and do not be afraid of getting close: one shot can kill two or three ZEDs, which is normal for a Support. Always fall back when a big ZED sprints toward you and let the Berserker tank while you support from behind. Choose targets wisely. A commenter suggests adding Husks, Sirens and robots to the priority list, because ignoring them is never good advice.
As with any perk, it takes practice to get used to the playstyle.
Community notes
- One commenter jokes that the best Support guide is to not play it and pick a Sharpshooter, Gunslinger, Demolitionist or Firebug instead.
- Another says Support is not necessarily the main damage dealer, because almost every perk except Medic can be, and that taking on too many Fleshpounds solo costs armor and health.
- A player who likes Support says they use it as a frontliner, sniper or semi-tank, but agrees the advice is good.

FAQ
- What is the Support's main job?
- Resupplying the team with ammo and armor each wave, which saves everyone dosh, and also killing big ZEDs, especially Scrakes, with strong shotguns.
- Which shotguns does the author recommend?
- AA-12 first, then M4 Combat Shotgun, the starting SG 500 Pump-Action, and the Double-barreled Shotgun for its stumble power and damage.
- Which level 25 skill is better, Penetrator or Barrage?
- The author prefers Barrage: in Zed Time your perk weapons fire at about 90% of real time, letting you empty almost an entire 30-round AA-12 magazine into a sprinting Scrake or Fleshpound.
