KF2 Support Loadouts: FAMAS, Frost Fang, Doomstick and S12

This guide from a long-time Support player lays out two complete skill and weapon setups for the perk, written for high-level play on official content. The author notes that Support is strong at close to mid range and supplies ammo, but struggles against large Zeds if you choose the wrong loadout.

Loadout 1: FAMAS, Frost Fang, HMTech-301

Loadout 1 skill selection Skill choices for the first loadout.

Loadout 1 weapons FAMAS, Frost Fang and HMTech-301 shotgun.

Skills

  • Tactical Reload: faster reloads, which compensates for shotgun reload times. Still recommended generally.
  • High Capacity Magazine: only useful for magazine-fed guns. Loadout 1 benefits somewhat; loadout 2 gets nothing (Doomstick and HRG Buckshot cannot gain ammo; Frost Fang can).
  • Salvo: the best damage choice. With the FAMAS you can pick off weak Zeds using primary and secondary fire and even kill large ones in Zed Time (a Commando's extension helps; take Zed Time Barrage). Frost Fang and HMTech-301 also benefit.
  • Fortitude: takes away firepower but lets you survive more hits so a Medic can save you. The author still prefers Salvo.
  • Armor Piercing Shot: hits several lined-up Zeds. It can also damage large Zeds and enrage Scrakes and Fleshpounds, so use it with care. Assault rifles in the game have weak penetration, and this skill makes up for that.
  • Tight Choke: reliable and less risky than Armor Piercing Shot. It improves range; with the FAMAS it only helps the secondary fire. With the Doomstick it makes one-shotting Scrakes easier and boosts Fleshpound headshot damage.
  • Resupply Pack: called unquestionably the best: more ammo for you, ammo and armor for the team.
  • Concussion Rounds: the author never uses them.
  • Zed Time Barrage: near real-time shooting. With the FAMAS drill a large Zed's head in primary fire, then switch to secondary when you need to reload.
  • Zed Time Penetrator: pierces without losing damage but fires slowly.

Weapons

  • FAMAS: ideal for trash and, at times, larges. Carries more ammo than other perk weapons, and cheaper ammo helps you earn dosh.
  • Frost Fang: reliable against large Zeds. Freeze them to gain time to damage, retreat or reload, and block to survive enraged Fleshpounds and Scrakes. The author notes Supports are often targeted by large Zeds, and this fixes that if medics heal you.
  • HMTech-301 shotgun: an easy-reload extra shotgun that heals teammates.
  • HMTech-101 pistol: optional, mostly for healing; buy last.
  • Alternate: M4 Combat Shotgun replaces the medic shotgun and pistol. It deals more damage and can kill Scrakes with a close headshot, but loses healing.

Loadout 2: Doomstick, Frost Fang, HRG Buckshot

Loadout 2 weapons Doomstick, Frost Fang and HRG Buckshot.

  • Doomstick: mainly for large Zeds. A clean close headshot kills a Scrake, and Salvo plus Tight Choke improve the odds. It also does major damage to Fleshpounds.
  • Frost Fang: works for both large and trash Zeds; remember to block.
  • HRG Buckshot: for trash Zeds, and decent against Quarter Pounds and EDARs.

Tips and objective

  • Early on, buy the HRG Buckshot for trash control; it is better than the starter weapon for fire rate. Sell it once you have better guns, unless you use loadout 2.
  • In higher waves with only Buckshot, target trash and let your team handle large Zeds; do not attack them head-on.
  • Your job: kill both trash and large Zeds when you can, stay alive to supply ammo and line up Zeds for multi-kills.
  • Support also welds doors faster and repairs broken doors, which occasionally helps.

Alternative loadout: magazines only

Alternative skill selection Skill choices for the magazine loadout.

Alternative weapons S12 Shockgun, FAMAS and HMTech-301.

Skills: High Capacity Magazine, Salvo, Armor Piercing Shot or Tight Choke, Resupply Pack (or Concussion Rounds if you do not need ammo support) and Zed Time Barrage. Tactical Reload is unnecessary because every weapon uses magazines. Fortitude is worse here because you lose the 30% damage increase.

Weapons:

  • S12 Shockgun: kills or heavily damages large Zeds; drop a shock and unload at them.
  • FAMAS: reliable on trash and medium Zeds, with the shotgun attachment as a fallback in Zed Time. Do not pair it with Tight Choke.
  • HMTech-301: backup that also heals.
  • Alternate: VLAD-1000 nailgun in place of the FAMAS, better with Tight Choke, and it frees a slot for a medic pistol or an upgrade.

Tips:

  • Start with the pump shotgun; you have more ammo with the magazine skill but reload takes longer, which is fine on wave 1.
  • Do not buy Buckshot at the end of wave 1; just buy shotgun ammo and save for the FAMAS.
  • Next buy the HMTech-301 (cheaper than other options, more firepower than the FAMAS), then save for the S12 Shockgun.
  • Neither weapon here can block, so be careful with large Zeds, or take Fortitude and keep a medic nearby. The author still prefers Salvo.

Conclusion

Support gives close to mid-range damage and ammo supply. The author wrote this because many Supports die first with the wrong loadout. The guide targets official games and is not tested with mods.

FAQ

Which Support skills are always best in this guide?
Salvo for damage, Resupply Pack for ammo and armor for the team, and Zed Time Barrage for near real-time shooting.
Why the Frost Fang?
No Zed resists it. It freezes large Zeds for time to damage, retreat or reload, and it can block, which helps survive enraged Scrakes and Fleshpounds.
Should I buy HRG Buckshot at the end of wave 1 in the magazine loadout?
No. High Capacity Magazine does not work on it. Buy ammo for your shotgun and save for the FAMAS.
