KF2 Specimen Files: Bloat Bile, Weaknesses and Statistics
The Bloat is a morbidly obese ZED bent on covering you in corrosive vomit. This page paraphrases the community "Specimen Files 2.0" entry from late 2015; numbers reflect the game at that time.
The Bloat.
When it appears
On all waves and, on higher difficulties, in the boss wave.
Behavior
The Bloat wanders toward a player and vomits once close. Bile damages over time and applies a screen effect lasting ten seconds. If its body health reaches zero it explodes, spraying bile in a large radius. A Bloat that loses its head bleeds out after six seconds, though dropping body health to zero still makes it explode. A Bloat killed by fire or toxic damage does not explode. On higher difficulties it has a chance to sprint when between 5.2 and 12 meters from a player; on Suicidal it may sprint when damaged and on Hell on Earth it always sprints when shot. When five ZEDs remain it sprints automatically. Its bile can hit weaker ZEDs, so it often starts fights with them.
Strategy
- Letting a Bloat get close is dangerous, especially on high difficulties where bile damage rises sharply.
- Bile can blind. On dark maps such as Catacombs this is much worse. Armor reduces the effect.
- It resists a lot of damage but is weak to fire, so Firebug is a good counter. A Berserker with toxic resistance can fight Bloats comfortably.
- Shooting anywhere but the head is mostly useless: head health is far lower than body health, and it does not scale with player count.
- Thanks to its weakness to slashing and low head health (a little above a Clot), one strong knife attack to the head kills it on any difficulty with six players. Do this only when it is alone or with weak ZEDs; otherwise use your primary on the head.
- Do not shoot a headless Bloat: it is mostly harmless and may explode on teammates.

FAQ
- Where should I shoot a Bloat?
- The head. Its body health is large and scales with players, while head health is small and does not scale. Shooting elsewhere wastes ammo.
- Does a headless Bloat still explode?
- A Bloat that lost its head bleeds out after six seconds, and reducing its body health to zero still makes it explode. Do not shoot a headless Bloat near teammates.
- Does armor help against bile?
- Yes. Wearing armor reduces the blinding visual effect of the bile.
