Eight KF2 Beginner Tips: Aim, Sidearm, Buddy System

These tips come from the written rough cut that accompanied a "Beat the System" video series on Killing Floor 2. The author published the list on request alongside the video, noting that it was not meant to look polished.

The list

  1. Aim for the head. Even if a zed keeps moving, it will bleed out and die, saving ammo and therefore money for later rounds.
  2. Use your sidearm. It is great for popping heads and saves ammo for the bigger threats later.
  3. Buddy system. Stay with the team, or at least one teammate. Being caught alone even by normal zeds can get you killed and leaves the team a player short.
  4. Grab a weapon. Tier 1 weapons lie around the map. Pick one up for extra firepower, or free cash if you sell it later.
  5. Check the stage. Weapons, ammo and even armor spawn around the map. Finding armor early helps you buy new weapons sooner.
  6. Die like a boss. Go down with your primary weapon out. If the team survives the round, the expensive weapon you bought will be right where you fell; a survival shovel pulled as a last resort is less useful.
  7. Do not run with a fleeing teammate. If a teammate runs, something is chasing him. He wants you to shoot it, not to jog beside him.
  8. Two bosses and a changed Hans. The game now has two bosses, and Hans changed a lot: it is safe to shoot him constantly. Save fast hard-hitting guns such as the AA-12 for when he puts up his shield, so you can break it, knock him down and give the team time to deal damage or heal.

Extra reminders

  • Reload right after you buy a weapon, so you never pull out an empty gun facing a mob or a Fleshpound.
  • Guard your dosh and spend it deliberately.

FAQ

Why use the sidearm?
It pops heads well and saves primary ammo for the big specimens that appear in later waves.
Why does it matter what you hold when you die?
If your team survives the wave, the weapon you were holding drops where you died; an expensive weapon is better to leave than a survival tool.
