KF2 Character Skins: Where to Get Special Outfits and Accessories

This page translates and paraphrases a Russian guide titled "Where do I get a character skin?", written in the early years of the game, so some promotions are long over. Prices and availability of third-party codes are not covered here. For other cosmetic topics see custom player skins and event ZED skins.

Owners are quiet about how they got it, like secret agents, but there is nothing secret. The skin, or rather its activation code, was given away in print editions of PC Gamer until 27 May 2015, with an original news article from PC Gamer announcing it. Today the only way to obtain it is to buy a code from someone who got one, and the author finds the price unjustified. There is a Steam group for the PC Gamer skin.

Knight and German officer

The Knight and the German officer

The Knight and the German officer.

Anyone with minimal English can read the screenshot:

To get the German officer skin you need to own Red Orchestra 2.
The Knight (swordsman) skin and the Zweihander come from owning Chivalry: Medieval Warfare.
Update: these models are given automatically to owners of the digital deluxe edition of KF2.

In online play you may see the message "Nickname is sharing content" with a Zweihander blueprint attached. It means someone on your team owns Chivalry: Medieval Warfare and the related extras. The item is given to all teammates once, for one game, regardless of how long it lasts or how long they stay.

DJ Skully

DJ Skully.

The author says he is sometimes asked where he got the skin: it comes from the Killing Floor 2 Digital Deluxe Edition.

Other accessories

All from the Digital Deluxe Edition and not tied to a specific character:

Skully's headphones, usable on most characters.
The Bowler hat.
3D glasses.

Alienware helmet

The Alienware helmet

The Alienware helmet.

In early 2016 a Tripwire developer stream with the Alienware team ran a giveaway of headgear for the game in the form of promo codes. The promotion has ended, so at the time of writing the helmet could only be obtained secondhand.

The author closes by asking readers to point out anything missed.
