Killing Floor 3 Server Status: How to Check if KF3 Servers Are Down

Killing Floor 3 depends on Tripwire's online services: matchmaking, loadouts and progression all go through them, so when the services are down you usually cannot play at all, solo included. This page shows where to check the status and what to do when the servers are up but your game is not.

Where to check

SourceWhat you get
The game's Steam news page (Events & Announcements)Official PSAs about maintenance and outages, with times
Tripwire forumsDetailed PSA threads, updated as an issue develops
Official Killing Floor accounts on X and other social networksThe fastest short announcements
The game's subredditOther players confirming whether it is broken for everyone
DowndetectorReal-time player reports. A spike of reports means a real outage

If none of these mention problems, the issue is most likely on your side.

Servers are up, but you cannot connect

  1. Restart the game and the Steam or Epic launcher.
  2. Check your connection and restart the router.
  3. See the specific errors: server connection error, authentication error, Hydra error 4.
  4. If the error keeps coming back at the same time as other players report it, it is a server-side problem: wait for a PSA.

Launch week, July 2025

Killing Floor 3 launched on 24 July 2025 with full crossplay between PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. A few days later the services had their first big incident:

Date (PDT)What happened
28 July 2025Third-party status checks showed the servers up, with no widespread reports
29 July 2025Tripwire posted a PSA: investigating reports of matchmaking and custom loadout issues
29 July 2025Short maintenance to fix matchmaking and loadout problems
29 July 2025, 5:53 PM"[PSA] Servers are live!": Tripwire believed the matchmaking issue was resolved and kept monitoring. Details went to a forum PSA about perk, skill, crafting and custom loadout issues

The pattern is typical for a launch: problems showed up in matchmaking and loadouts rather than as a full outage, so the game looked "up" to status sites while many players could not get into a match. In such cases the official PSAs are more reliable than any status checker.
