Freya
The Ice Queen's Castle, a quest inventory and 88 Olympiad arenas
Freya (The 2nd Throne: Freya) is the Lineage 2 update released on July 6, 2010. It added four new hunting grounds, reworked zones for high-level characters, improved mail and added news notifications. Freya also introduced a new item classification (three equipment classes differing in power and properties), recommendations earned through play time, a separate quest inventory and more Olympiad arenas.

Key changes
- The number of recommendations was increased; they are now earned through time spent in the game.
- The number of Olympiad arenas was increased from 22 to 88.
- A character who died on the battlefield can be resurrected with a skill or a resurrection scroll.
- Mail can now be checked outside peace zones too.
Attribute defense
Attribute defense can no longer work "beyond" the attack attribute. For example, if the attacker's attribute is 50 and the defender's is 100, the damage is the same as with a defense of 50. This rule applies in all cases.

Quests
- Five quests telling the story of the Ice Queen Freya's castle were added; they are available from level 82.
- New quest types appeared: daily quests (can be taken no more than once a day), item quests and escort quests.
- The limit of simultaneously active quests was raised from 25 to 40.
- Quest items moved to a separate quest inventory and no longer take up main inventory slots. Both the quest and the main inventory have 100 slots.
