The Rogue

Persecuted and despised, thieves were long seen as the shame of the human race. Unlike their brothers who chose the path of the warrior or knight, the path of honor and valor, thieves are used to acting unseen, believing it better to flee the battlefield and live than to die bravely.

Thieves are the best class for guerrilla warfare. The strongest fell dead from their swift lunges (Deadly Blow) and powerful shots (Power Shot), and when things got too dangerous, Dash helped them get away.

Treasure Hunter

Pirates, smugglers and adventurers - these are the treasure hunters. Fast, agile and cunning, they can escape any scrape. Many enemies have felt the power of their Deadly Blow and Backstab. Fake Death and Switch make them the most treacherous class in the game. Silent Move lets them stay among aggressive monsters for a while without being attacked. Treasure hunters are useful to a party too: they can blind monsters for several minutes or pull social monsters out of a group one at a time without disturbing the rest.

Hawkeye

In the old days the best human archers were called "hawkeyes". No one can outrun or hide from their arrows. They stun with Stun Shot or loose two arrows at once with Double Shot, and their signature ability, Hawk Eye, negates any attempt by the enemy to dodge an arrow.

Rogue class change quest

The Path to a Rogue quest starts with Captain Bezique at the west gate of Gludin and goes through the Ruins of Agony (10 Spartoi's Bone from Ruin Spartoi and Raging Spartoi) and the Abandoned Camp (Stolen Necklace, Stolen Tomes, Stolen Jewelry and Stolen Ring from Cat's Eye Bandits). The whole quest must be done with Neti's Dagger and Neti's Bow received from Neti - they can be boosted with Soulshots. Head to the Abandoned Camp without leaving the road to Gludio. With Bezique's Recommendation and level 20, talk to Grandmaster Ramos in the Fighters' Guild and change profession to Rogue. The full step-by-step route is in First profession: humans.

Rogue skills

The main difference between the Rogue and the Human Fighter is passive skills for specialized weapons and a variety of abilities.

Passive:

  1. Dagger Mastery and Bow Mastery - increase damage with daggers and bows respectively.
  2. Light Armor Mastery - raises P.Def and Evasion in light armor.
  3. Long Shot - increases bow range. Useful for both future Treasure Hunters and Hawkeyes.
  4. Critical Power and Critical Chance - the first increases critical damage, the second the critical rate.
  5. Acrobatic Move, Quick Step, Boost Attack Speed, Esprit - let you jump from any height unharmed, run and hit faster, and regenerate HP and MP faster while running.

Active:

  1. Power Shot and Mortal Blow - continued from the skills learned as a Human Fighter.
  2. Bleed - used with a dagger. Leaves a bleeding wound on the target, dooming it to a slow death.
  3. Stun Shot - the calling card of every archer. Stuns the target, temporarily preventing it from moving and attacking.
  4. Accuracy, Dash, Rapid Shot, Ultimate Evasion - very useful, sometimes vital skills. Accuracy raises hit chance; Dash helps you break away from monsters or catch an opponent; Rapid Shot speeds up bow attacks; Ultimate Evasion makes you the most elusive thief around for 30 seconds.
  5. Unlock - the Rogue's most controversial skill. It opens the door on the 3rd floor of Cruma Tower behind which the boss waits. Useful if you usually level in a party.

The Rogue's role

  1. PvM (player vs monsters) - the thief is a DD (damage dealer): his main job is killing monsters. The faster he does it and the less HP and mana the party spends, the more he is valued.
  2. PvP (player vs player) - the thief is a very dangerous opponent. With the strongest and most frequent crits, he leaves few a chance in melee. But he is vulnerable to spells like Sleep and Root, so good jewelry is a must.
  3. Party vs party - the thief is irreplaceable. His main task is destroying enemy mages. The sooner he reaches an enemy mage (healer, buffer) and kills it, the better the party's chances.

Tips for new Rogues

  1. If you can afford it, buy heavy armor instead of light. Humans have lower DEX than elves, so up to level 30 heavy armor is more comfortable, and the P.Def difference makes leveling easier and faster. This works only when leveling with a dagger, since special attacks do not always land the first time.
  2. If you prefer leveling with a bow, wear armor with lots of MP - various magic robes and tunics will do.
  3. Remember that monsters have strengths and weaknesses: for example, all golems resist arrows, while bats and imps are weak against them.
  4. Try to get a healer into your party. The Prophet suits treasure hunters especially well.
