Spoil: Dwarven Gathering
The craft of the Scavenger and Bounty Hunter
Gathering is the craft of the Dwarven Scavenger and Bounty Hunter: with special skills they get extra loot from monsters on top of the normal drop, and it is sometimes much more valuable.
Gatherer skills
Gathering uses 3 skills:
- Spoil - used on a mob before or during an attack.
- Spoil Festival - works like Spoil, but on several mobs at once. Only Scavengers get it.
- Sweeper - used on a mob's corpse under special conditions.

Find these skills and put them on your shortcut bar - you will use them often.

Spoil
The skill description makes it clear: after you use it on a mob, you get a chance at an extra item on top of the normal loot.
Target a mob and press Spoil - the Dwarf runs to the mob, the blue skill bar fills, and a message reports success. Spoil does not always land: the chance depends on the mob's level and the skill level. The chance may also depend slightly on magic attack, but that is only the author's impression and is not confirmed by anything.

Using Spoil on a mob and enjoying the colorful fireworks.
Spoil counts as an attack: once it lands, the mob starts attacking the Dwarf, so the Dwarf automatically switches to normal attacks. A successfully spoiled mob cannot be spoiled again. Spoil can be used during combat too, but before the mob dies.

Sweeper
The spoiled mob must be killed. If you are lucky, a blue aura appears around the corpse - this means you can collect an extra item from it. Not every killed mob turns blue, and not every one drops something valuable: sometimes you have to kill dozens or even hundreds of mobs to get any spoil at all. But such rare items are usually the most valuable, and many players will pay a lot of adena for them.
The chance of getting an extra item also depends on the level gap between the Dwarf and the mob. If the gap is more than 2, the chance drops by 15% for each level of difference. If the gap is more than 9 levels, the chance is 1% of the base value.

A blue corpse is a gatherer's delight.
If the corpse turns blue, target it (SHIFT + left click) and use Sweeper. The blue bar flashes, and a message tells you what the Dwarf extracted from the corpse. You can get several items from one mob, but no more than three types at a time: for example, one mob might give 2-3 Iron Ore and Recipe: Steel, and another time 1 Varnish. Remember that the corpse disappears sooner or later, so you must use Sweeper before it does.

Using Spoil to pull aggro
Every mob has an aggro list that includes any player who has attacked it at least once. Usually a mob attacks whoever is at the top of the list (but not always - for example, mobs sometimes go after the weakest players in a party). Attacks, skills and spells move players up and down the list.
Using Spoil is roughly equal to two critical hits in a row, two heals on players attacking the mob, or casting a buff near the mob. So in a critical situation you can use Spoil to pull the mob's aggro onto yourself and save another player (usually the healer) from a sudden attack.
Spoil Festival
Spoil Festival works just like Spoil, but on several mobs near the Dwarf at once. It is very handy when the Dwarf hunts groups of enemies with a spear or halberd - party mobs with reduced HP.
That is all there is to the simple craft of the gatherer. Happy spoiling!
