How to Earn Adena: Dwarven Gatherers and Crafters
Introduction to the economy section
Two Dwarves arrive at a leveling spot, and one says to the other: "Today I'm the tank and you're the damage dealer." - Dwarf humor
Words mean nothing if you can't hear the clink of adena in them. - Old Dwarven wisdom
Dwarves are a special race in the world of Lineage. They make poor warriors: a Dwarf would rather examine an opponent's weapon than fight a duel. Their strength lies not in combat but in the ability to make adena practically out of thin air.
Gatherers and crafters
Dwarves earn money in two ways:
- Gatherers - Scavenger and Bounty Hunter. They extract valuable and rare items from monsters to sell to other players.
- Crafters - Artisan and Warsmith. They create rare and valuable items - and also sell them to other players.
Until level 20 a Dwarf can do both gathering and crafting, but after that you have to choose which you prefer.
Scavenger, then Bounty Hunter. A gatherer makes a living from valuable monster loot that cannot be obtained the usual way, or that takes a long and tedious time to get. Some of this loot turns out to be useless, but that is no problem - you can always sell it to a shop or hold on to it until there is demand. See Spoil for details.
Artisan, then Warsmith. A crafter creates weapons and armor that are hard to find or buy, and this can be quite profitable. But a crafter depends on demand for particular items and on the cost of materials. The best strategy is to stay active on the market, watch prices and make friends with gatherers. See Crafting for details.
A Dwarf's life
Life outside the native mountains of Elmore is hard and dangerous for a Dwarf. Like everyone else, a Dwarf gains new skills only by killing mobs and gaining levels. And since a Dwarf is a poor fighter, where other classes can level solo nonstop, a Dwarf has to rest often. That is why Dwarves are rarely invited to parties and are doomed to eternal solo play.
At least until the Dwarf finds a clan. A proper clan needs 1 crafter and 2-3 gatherers to supply the crafter with materials. In such a clan, Dwarves are taken along for leveling and farming and are assigned healers and damage dealers. If your clan treats your Dwarf differently, it is clearly not the clan for you.
Special abilities
- Crafters. During sieges a Dwarven crafter can summon various golems to destroy castle walls and gates. At other times crafters can summon an ordinary golem - a fairly dangerous and powerful combat machine.
- Gatherers. In a critical situation a gatherer can play dead so convincingly that the mobs believe it and wander off, while the cunning Dwarf quickly escapes to safety.
Besides the Dwarven professions, any character can earn money - for example, through sowing and harvesting: see Manor: Sowing and Harvesting.
