Killing Floor 1 Characters: Full Roster With Portraits
Killing Floor lets you pick a character model that is separate from your perk: the character is purely cosmetic and changes your look and voice, never your stats. This page lists every character the game ships with, grouped by how you get it, with the lobby portrait the game shows on the character select screen.
The list comes from the game itself. Each character has a .upl record in the System folder of the Steam install, and the in-game biographies live in System/KFGui.int. Pack contents and dates come from the Steam store pages. Unlock conditions use the exact Steam achievement text.

A locked character still shows up on the select screen with a "locked" portrait. For DLC characters, clicking it opens the Steam store page for its pack.
Base Game
These six have no locked portrait in the game files, so every owner of Killing Floor can pick them from the start. Four are British Army soldiers and two are riot police.
Sergeant Powers

A soldier who came home to find his wife and children dead. The in-game bio says he barely eats or sleeps, scares his fellow survivors and "collects freak fingers".
Lieutenant Masterson

An officer whose previous military service "seems virtually nonexistant" (sic). He is a man of few words who stays unnaturally calm in combat and gets the job done "no matter how unsavory".
Corporal Lewis

A month before the outbreak, Lewis was close to being relieved of duty for being overweight. The fighting has brought him back to "military standards", and his fat-hating commanding officer has since been decapitated.
Private Schnieder

His squad was torn apart minutes after deploying into London. Schnieder fought his way out, and the bio says he keeps pace with the higher-ranked men around him.
Police Constable Briar

A riot policeman who spent three years policing protests. He was called out to a "riot" that turned out to be the specimens, and a nightstick was not going to be enough.
Police Sergeant Davin

A veteran sergeant who was about to be moved to a desk job when the outbreak hit. The bio sums up his reaction as "All hail the end of the world."
Steam Character Packs
Killing Floor has 14 paid character packs on Steam. The dates below are the release dates shown on each store page. Each pack unlocks its characters on the select screen once you own it.
Outbreak Character Pack (July 24, 2009)

- Agent Wilkes wears Horzine's "Mark 7" combat suit. Horzine was building advanced armor under a Ministry of Defence contract while secretly cloning a subterranean army, and Wilkes "liberated" the suit.
- Foundry Worker Aldridge worked an unskilled job paying three times the usual wage. He stopped asking questions until a mangled man-machine hybrid broke through the door.
- DJ Scully went AWOL from the military and played drum and bass in London's underground clubs. He watched his crowd get shredded by a creature with "flesh blenders for hands".
- Dr. Gary Glover is one of the few survivors of the Horzine Biotics Labs staff. He helped create the specimens now tearing London apart.
Nightfall Character Pack (May 19, 2010)

- Mr. Foster is a day trader and evening attraction at "London's premiere karaoke bar", wearing a suit and gas mask. His unfinished autobiography ends with the chapter "An Orgy of Skull Cracking and Mutant Warfare in the Big City". He later got several alternate versions (see Steampunk Mr. Foster and Mr. Magma below).
- Security Officer Thorne, a.k.a. "Carnivore" is a Horzine employee who accepted a bonus for experimental enhancements. Now he can "bend things real good" and finds the lab rats tasty. His bio is written as his own rambling monologue.
- Lance-Corporal Lee Baron is a bomb-disposal soldier. His suit stops debris but not claws, so he keeps his distance and uses pipe bombs.
- Mike Noble was at a rave in a skeleton costume when his girlfriend was eaten. Then he found a katana and a latent psychopathic streak.
PostMortem Character Pack (October 7, 2010)

- Harold Hunt fronts the South London punk band "The Fecking Nancies" (not to be confused with Harold Lott).
- Kerry Fitzpatrick is a prison inmate. He escaped while being transferred to the high-security psych ward at Broadmoor, after the specimens ate his guards.
- Trooper Clive Jenkins is a paratrooper from Aldershot. His C Company jumped over London "straight into a mob of chainsaw-wielding nutters".
- Paramedic Alfred Anderson is a hospital night-shift worker who is well stocked with medical supplies.
"London's Finest" Character Pack (December 14, 2010)

Released alongside the 2010 Twisted Christmas event.
- Chopper Harris is a football hooligan who has fought at stadiums all over Europe.
- Kevo the Chav fought his way past the Zeds on Croydon High Street.
- Captain Sir Richard Wiggins, 5th Baronet of Warbury, is an Eton, Cambridge and Sandhurst officer in the Brigade of Guards who finds zed-killing "jolly good sport". The game files spell his ID
Captian_Wiggins. - Reverend Alberts was the vicar of Saint Ethel's in West London for nearly 20 years.
Steampunk Character Pack (July 2, 2011)

The first of two Victorian-themed packs. The in-game names follow perk names, but they are only names: any character can play any perk.
- Steampunk Berserker: Reggie "Basher" Clover, an ex-policeman in home-made armor.
- Steampunk Firebug: Adam, a "pyromaniac-for-hire".
- Steampunk Medic: Doctor David, who was rejected by every medical school in the country.
- Steampunk Sharpshooter: Peter, from a long line of aristocratic assassins.
Steampunk Character Pack 2 (December 7, 2011)

- Steampunk DJ Scully is a steam-powered version of DJ Scully, still trying to play one perfect set.
- Steampunk Demolition is Quentin, who blew up his first high-rise at six. His military career ended after an incident with five grenades and the commanding officer's corgi, Alan.
- Steampunk Support Specialist is Harold, a former relationship counsellor who has found his "true calling" as a destroyer.
- Steampunk Commando is Phil, who claims special-forces experience. He actually stacked supermarket shelves and learned everything from shooters and gun magazines.
Urban Nightmare Character Pack (July 5, 2012)

- Dave "The Butcher" Roberts is a former city banker who became the heavy muscle of London's biggest crime family.
- Dr. Jeffrey Tamm is the Horzine roboticist in charge of the Domestic Assistant Robot (D.A.R.). He is obsessed with his college crush Brenda Rank.
- Samuel Avalon is a calendar-pin-up fireman who secretly "loves death, revels in pain".
- Shadow Ferret is Rob Allan, a self-styled "ninja protector of Brixton".
Harold Lott Character Pack (July 5, 2012)

Harold Lott won the lottery at 17. He is now CEO of three multinational companies and is "crass, loud and abusive". Tripwire describes him as a parody of the 1980s boom years and of the "Money, Money, Money" shouting heard in the game. As the store page promises, he leaves a trail of dosh behind him: his character record attaches a money-particle effect to his hand.
Ash Harding Character Pack (August 10, 2012)

Captain Ashley "Ash" Harding is the daughter of East End crime boss Benny the Diamond. She chose the British Army instead, and her unit was wiped out just as she made captain. She was the first female character in the game and uses the game's female voice pack.
The Chickenator Pack (October 23, 2012)

The Chickenator is Special Inspector Edmund Cook, the Commando Chicken (see below). He was killed, then resurrected by a mysterious benefactor with combat biotech. He is "part dead policeman, part robot and all foul". His robot eye glows, and he leaves a trail of feathers.
Robot Special Character Pack (December 13, 2012)

D.A.R. is Horzine's Domestic Assistant Robot, built by Dr. Jeffrey Tamm to tidy up around the home. It accidentally downloaded the personality Tamm meant for his "Brenda Companion Robot". It has a dedicated robot voice pack, and its record attaches a spark effect to the head ("leaving a trail of sparks", as the store page says).
Mrs Foster Pack (July 3, 2013)
Mrs. Foster was a "scarily-successful commodities trader" who once interviewed Mr. Foster for a job. He gave her a gas mask of her own on their first date.
Reggie the Rocker Character Pack (October 23, 2013)

Reggie was the front man of Pissed Gods, a 1979 London band whose single "Bollock Smasher" made it big before the band faded into obscurity. He uses a mumbling voice pack and always has a cigarette smoking.
Neon Character Pack (July 2, 2014)
Two glowing variants of older characters, each with its own particle effect:
- Mr. Magma is Mr. Foster in a glowing red suit with fire motifs on the cuffs. He uses Mr. Foster's model.
- Voltage is DJ Scully in a blue neon jumpsuit. He uses DJ Scully's model.
Achievement Unlocks
These are free. Each one unlocks when you earn one Steam achievement. The conditions below are the achievement descriptions as Steam shows them. Most of them depend on seasonal event content, so check the event content page for when it is active.
Baddest Santa

- Achievement: "Bad Santa": "Unlock 10 of the 13 Christmas Achievements along with any Christmas Map achievement."
- Introduced: with the Twisted Christmas event (December 14, 2010 to January 4, 2011).
Bill Weeks is a sacked mall Santa who woke up hungover in a world full of monsters. His nickname came from a little girl who wet herself on his lap and called him "the Baddest Santa Evuh!"
Grim Reaper

- Achievement: "Grim Reaper": "Get the 6 Special Halloween Achievements plus 1 Hillbilly Horror Map Achievement to unlock the Grim Reaper".
Timmy Grimes is an office cleaner who loves dressing up as the Grim Reaper at Halloween, and Horzine stole his thunder. He leaves a smoke trail behind his feet.
Commando Chicken

- Achievement: "Rule The Roost": "Get all 6 achievements and unlock Commando Chicken".
Special Inspector Edmund Cook came to the West End Central police station's Halloween party in his prized chicken suit. The outbreak hit the party, so he fought in the suit and won't take it off. The paid Chickenator is the same man after death and resurrection.
Steampunk Mr. Foster

- Achievement: "Punk'd": "Unlock 10 of the 13 Circus Achievements along with any Abusement Park achievement."
- The Circus achievements belong to the Summer Sideshow event and its map Abusement Park. Players on the Steam forums confirm the reward. A common missed step is that "any Abusement Park achievement" means at least a Normal win on the map.

Steampunk Mrs. Foster

- Achievement: "Mrs. Punkd": "Get 4 of 6 of the 2013 Summer Event in-game level Achievements, one Standard and one Objective Mode map completion Achievement, plus the Punk'd Achievement to unlock Steampunk Mrs. Foster".
- You need Punk'd first, so Steampunk Mr. Foster always comes before her.
Dr. Rachel Clamley
- Achievement: "Doctor WHO??": "Transit - Get all Objective achievements AND beat KFO Transit on Hard or above to unlock Dr Rachel Clamely."
- Added in the July 2014 summer update. The Steam announcement says she "can be unlocked by completing the Transit map, in Objective Mode".
Rachel Clamley is a scientist raised by relatives in Boston, Montreal and Manchester. She joined the National Labs in London hoping to spend time with her absent father, Kevin, and got "Zeds and a madman" instead. Steam spells her name "Clamely". The game files and bio use "Clamley".
Cross-Promotion Characters
These came from other games' promotions. You cannot buy them as Killing Floor DLC.
Pyro (Red and Blue)

Team Fortress 2's Pyro was added in the 2010 Twisted Christmas event, in both team colors. It is available to anyone who owns both Team Fortress 2 and Killing Floor. In return, TF2 got two Killing Floor items for the Pyro: Mr. Foster's gas mask ("Foster's Facade") and his tie ("Stockbroker's Scarf"). The in-game bio stays faithful to TF2's joke that nobody knows whether the Pyro is "he" or "she". See the TF2 crossover page.
Harchier Spebbington and Harchier Spebbington II

The archaeologist hero of Tripwire-published The Ball, who misses his giant mystical ball in London.
- Harchier Spebbington was a pre-purchase bonus: Tripwire's last-call announcement on October 25, 2010 called him "the pre-purchase exclusive Killing Floor character". He cannot be obtained any more.
- Harchier Spebbington II is a second version for owners of The Ball. According to the Steam community, it was announced in 2013. The game's own DLC screen lists it next to the paid character packs.
- The achievement "No Time for Love, Dr. Jones" asks you to "Win a short round on KF-Hell playing as or with Harchier Spebbington". You can earn it by playing alongside someone who owns him.
WW2 Re-enactors: George and Nikolay

Two "Russian and German Soldier Re-enactors" came with the Steam Digital Deluxe Edition of Red Orchestra 2: Heroes of Stalingrad (pre-purchase announcement, August 2, 2011). The game IDs are KF_German and KF_Soviet.
- George, nicknamed "Herman the German", obsesses over his German WW2 uniform collection and fights with a replica MKb 42(H).
- Nikolay really is Russian. His uniform is genuine because it belonged to his grandfather.
Hayato Tanaka and Ricky Vegas

The Rising Storm Digital Deluxe Edition includes "2 Rising Storm soldier playable characters for Killing Floor". It also bundles the Red Orchestra 2 Digital Deluxe upgrade, which contains the two re-enactors above.
- Hayato Tanaka is a Japanese-American with Yakuza aspirations who was doing voice work and publicity photos in WW2 Japanese gear, genuine katana included, when the Zeds burst into the studio.
- Ricky Vegas was voicing a WW2 US Marine for a friend's video game in the same studio. The crew wouldn't let him near live ammo until he beat a group of Clots to death.
Trivia From the Game Files
- Only four characters are female: Ash Harding, Mrs. Foster, Steampunk Mrs. Foster and Dr. Rachel Clamley. All four use the female voice pack.
- Five character records attach a particle effect: Harold Lott (money), The Chickenator (feathers), D.A.R. (sparks), Grim Reaper (smoke) and Reggie (cigarette smoke). The Neon Character Pack store page says Mr. Magma and Voltage also come with their own particle effects.
- Pyro Red and Pyro Blue share a single model. Mr. Magma and Voltage reuse the Mr. Foster and DJ Scully models.
- The Chickenator and Commando Chicken are the same person in their backstories: Special Inspector Edmund Cook, before and after his death.
