Killing Floor Unlockable Characters Guide

Most Killing Floor characters come from paid DLC packs, but six can be unlocked for free by earning a single Steam achievement. Each of these achievements is a "meta" achievement: you get it by collecting a set of other achievements, usually from a seasonal event. The conditions below are copied from the achievement descriptions on Steam.

Two characters that are often listed as unlockables are actually DLC: The Chickenator (The Chickenator Pack) and D.A.R. (Robot Special Character Pack). For every character in the game, including DLC and cross-promotion characters, see Killing Floor 1 Characters.

1. Baddest Santa

  • Who: Bill Weeks, a fired mall Santa with a shotgun and a hangover.
  • Achievement: "Bad Santa": "Unlock 10 of the 13 Christmas Achievements along with any Christmas Map achievement."
  • When: introduced with the Twisted Christmas event (December 14, 2010 to January 4, 2011), which also added the map Santa's Evil Lair. Many Christmas achievements need the Christmas specimens. They appear during the Christmas event, and since patch 1064 server owners can also force them with SpecialEventType=ET_TwistedChristmas (see launching event zeds).

2. Grim Reaper

  • Who: Timmy Grimes, an office cleaner who loves dressing as the Grim Reaper at Halloween.
  • Achievement: "Grim Reaper": "Get the 6 Special Halloween Achievements plus 1 Hillbilly Horror Map Achievement to unlock the Grim Reaper".
  • Map: the map achievement must come from Hillbilly Horror, not Bedlam.

3. Commando Chicken

  • Who: Special Inspector Edmund Cook, a policeman who fought the outbreak in the chicken suit he wore to a Halloween party. The paid Chickenator is the same man after he was killed and rebuilt as a cyborg.
  • Achievement: "Rule The Roost": "Get all 6 achievements and unlock Commando Chicken".
  • Note: the Steam text doesn't name the six achievements. Players on the Steam forums describe the chicken as a Halloween-event unlock.

4. Steampunk Mr. Foster

  • Who: Mr. Foster in Victorian steampunk gear, an alternate-universe version where day traders are cool.
  • Achievement: "Punk'd": "Unlock 10 of the 13 Circus Achievements along with any Abusement Park achievement."
  • Map: Abusement Park (the Summer Sideshow circus map). A common reason the unlock doesn't fire is the missing map achievement: win on Abusement Park on at least Normal.
  • Not The Ball: owning The Ball has nothing to do with this character. It unlocks Harchier Spebbington II.

5. Steampunk Mrs. Foster

  • Who: the steampunk version of Mrs. Foster.
  • Achievement: "Mrs. Punkd": "Get 4 of 6 of the 2013 Summer Event in-game level Achievements, one Standard and one Objective Mode map completion Achievement, plus the Punk'd Achievement to unlock Steampunk Mrs. Foster".
  • Order: you need Punk'd first, so unlock Steampunk Mr. Foster before her.

6. Dr. Rachel Clamley

  • Who: a scientist at the National Labs in London. She hoped to spend time with her father, Kevin, and got "Zeds and a madman" instead.
  • Achievement: "Doctor WHO??": "Transit - Get all Objective achievements AND beat KFO Transit on Hard or above to unlock Dr Rachel Clamely."
  • Mode: Objective mode on KFO-Transit, Hard or above. She was added in the July 2014 summer update.

Bonus: Harchier Spebbington Achievement

The achievement "No Time for Love, Dr. Jones" asks you to "Win a short round on KF-Hell playing as or with Harchier Spebbington". You don't need to own the character: it is enough that a teammate plays as him.

Note on "Unlock All" Servers and Tools

Some servers promise to unlock characters for you. Because these characters are tied to Steam achievements, nothing a server does will unlock them unless your Steam account actually gets the achievement. Third-party achievement editors such as Steam Achievement Manager can set achievements directly; see our Steam Achievement Manager page for what that involves.
