KF2 Auto Reload Cancel, Melee Cancel and Parry Binds (kfinput.ini)
This guide shows how to add automatic cancelling of reloads, melee swings and parries to Killing Floor 2 through console binds in kfinput.ini. The binds change dynamically depending on which weapon group you pick, so you do not need separate keys. The author recorded a video demonstration and said everything worked in the new beta at the time (build 1065).
Note: these are input-config tweaks that exploit animation cancelling, and later patches changed the behaviour. See also our related page on reload cancelling and quick melee and reload key and melee bash binds.
Step 1: add new bindings
Go to Documents/My Games/KillingFloor2/KFGame/Config/ and edit kfinput.ini. Scroll to the bottom and paste these lines.
Bindings=(Name="GBA_AutoMeleeCancel",Command="customstartfire 2 | customstopfire 2 | Ironsights 1 | OnRelease IronsightsRelease 1",Control=False,Shift=False,Alt=False,bIgnoreCtrl=False,bIgnoreShift=False,bIgnoreAlt=False)
Bindings=(Name="GBA_AutoParry",Command="customstartfire 2 | customstopfire 2 | SwitchFire | OnRelease SwitchFireRelease",Control=False,Shift=False,Alt=False,bIgnoreCtrl=False,bIgnoreShift=False,bIgnoreAlt=False)
Bindings=(Name="GBA_AutoReloadCancel",Command="customstartfire 2 | customstopfire 2 | customstartfire 0 | customstartfire 3 | customstopfire 3 | customstartfire 2 | customstopfire 2 | onrelease customstopfire 0",Control=False,Shift=False,Alt=False,bIgnoreCtrl=False,bIgnoreShift=False,bIgnoreAlt=False)
Bindings=(Name="GBA_SwitchKeysMelee",Command="setbind LeftMousebutton GBA_fire | setbind MiddleMouseButton GBA_AutoParry | setbind RightMouseButton GBA_AutoMeleeCancel",Control=False,Shift=False,Alt=False,bIgnoreCtrl=False,bIgnoreShift=False,bIgnoreAlt=False)
Bindings=(Name="GBA_SwitchKeysRange",Command="setbind LeftMousebutton GBA_AutoReloadCancel | setbind MiddleMouseButton GBA_SwitchFireMode | setbind RightMouseButton GBA_IronsightsHold ",Control=False,Shift=False,Alt=False,bIgnoreCtrl=False,bIgnoreShift=False,bIgnoreAlt=False)
Bindings=(Name="GBA_SwitchKeysEquip",Command="setbind LeftMousebutton GBA_fire | setbind MiddleMouseButton GBA_SwitchFireMode | setbind RightMouseButton GBA_IronsightsHold ",Control=False,Shift=False,Alt=False,bIgnoreCtrl=False,bIgnoreShift=False,bIgnoreAlt=False)
Step 2: replace the weapon-slot bindings
Find the four bindings for keys one to four:
Bindings=(Name="one",Command="GBA_SwitchWeapon1",...)
Bindings=(Name="two",Command="GBA_SwitchWeapon2",...)
Bindings=(Name="three",Command="GBA_SwitchWeapon3",...)
Bindings=(Name="four",Command="GBA_SwitchWeapon4",...)
and give each one an extra command after the weapon switch (the trailing Control=False,... settings stay as they were):
| Key | New Command value |
|---|---|
| one | GBA_SwitchWeapon1 | GBA_SwitchKeysRange |
| two | GBA_SwitchWeapon2 | GBA_SwitchKeysRange |
| three | GBA_SwitchWeapon3 | GBA_SwitchKeysMelee |
| four | GBA_SwitchWeapon4 | GBA_SwitchKeysEquip |
(In the file, the separator is a plain vertical bar, for example Command="GBA_SwitchWeapon1 | GBA_SwitchKeysRange".)
What it does
- Pressing 1 or 2 switches your mouse binds to the ranged set: the left mouse button auto-cancels reloads.
- Pressing 3 switches to the melee set: right mouse becomes auto-cancelled melee swing and the middle button becomes auto-cancelled parry.
- Pressing 4 switches to a set that works with C4, the healer and the welder.
The binds only change when you press 1, 2, 3 or 4. If you drop or buy a weapon, nothing is rebound, so tap the matching number key manually after changing your loadout.
Extra bind: auto-cancelled bashes
Type this into the console to get auto-cancelled bashes, replacing the key name with your bash key:
setbind [YOURBASHKEY] "customstartfire 2 | customstopfire 2 | customstartfire 3 | onrelease customstopfire 3"
Comments
- The author updated the reload cancel bind to be more functional.
- Players asked whether holding left mouse and spamming block still auto-parries. The author said attacks can no longer be cancelled directly into a parry, but you can cancel attacks into the examine weapon animation and then parry.
- One commenter warned that using a key to rebind others on the fly can cause brief game pauses, especially when it triggers on every weapon switch.
- Some players felt cancel-spamming removes the fun, preferring to play manually.
FAQ
- Where is kfinput.ini?
- In Documents/My Games/KillingFloor2/KFGame/Config/. Edit kfinput.ini, scroll to the bottom and paste the new bindings, then replace the four weapon-slot bindings.
- Does this still work?
- It was written for the beta around build 1065 in May 2018, and the author later said attack-to-parry cancels were patched out (you could still cancel attacks into the examine animation and then parry). Commenters in 2020 asked whether it still works, so test it on your current build.
- Why does the game sometimes hitch with these binds?
- A commenter notes that binding keys that rebind other keys on the fly can briefly pause the game, and this is most noticeable if you rebind on every weapon switch.
