KF2 Auto Sprint: Permanent Sprint, Smart Ironsights and Crouch Binds

This guide (with an accompanying video) explains why sprint in Killing Floor 2 can feel unreliable and gives a set of console binds that make it permanent and automatic. The binds are the author's own; use them at your own risk and test them before relying on them in a hard match. See also the KFInput bindings page.

The problem

Sprint should only change when you press the sprint key. In practice, stopping and aiming down sights can cancel it, so the state feels inconsistent.

Permanent Sprint

Stopping deactivates sprint by default. To disable that, untick "Toggle to Sprint" in the gameplay settings. If you still want a working toggle, edit the bind:

setbind GBA_Sprint "ToggleSprint"

Ironsights also interrupts sprint. The guide recommends using Ironsights Hold, since the game is designed around it: ironsight bonuses are instant while the movement penalty is continuous, so you tap in and out quickly. Melee weapons also work better with it. Then use this smart bind:

setbind gba_ironsightsHold "Spectatenextplayer | togglesprint | ironsights 1 | togglesprint | onrelease ironsightsrelease 1"

It detects crouch, stand and sprint animations, toggles sprint depending on context and triggers a technique called AutoADS. With Toggle to Sprint off and Smart Ironsights, you get permanent sprint.

AutoSprint with crouch

Crouch cannot interrupt the sprint animation, so with permanent sprint you could not crouch. Fix this by making crouch deactivate sprint on press and reactivate it on release:

setbind GBA_CrouchHold "Gamepadsprintrelease | button bDuck | onrelease ToggleSprint | Axis aUp Speed=-1.0 AbsoluteAxis=100"
setbind GBA_CrouchToggle "ToggleSprint | ToggleCrouch"

Now you no longer need a sprint key; the author recommends unbinding it so it does not interfere.

Jogging for edge cases

Some mechanics and bugs need sprint off. Add at least one way to jog:

  • Edit Jump so that crouching then jumping puts you in a jog (familiar from Call of Duty):
setbind GBA_Jump "Jump | button bduck | Axis aUp Speed=+1.0 AbsoluteAxis=100"
  • Or make the sprint key a hold-to-jog key:
setbind GBA_Sprint "ToggleSprint | Onrelease ToggleCrouch"

Jog in these cases:

  • Ironsight extras: Seeker Six lock-on, healing darts lock-on, Glock and shield block. AutoADS does not work well with these. You can carry sprint speed into a jump and lock on mid-air, as airtime does not interrupt the sprint animation.
  • Healing others: the Healing Syringe is bugged and cannot heal others during the sprint animation.
  • Blocking and parrying: sprint cancels BlockHold, which covers most of the generous half-second parry window, so jog before blocking.

FAQ

Why does sprint feel inconsistent in KF2?
The guide argues that only the sprint key should change sprint state, but movement and ironsights can cancel it, which makes it feel unresponsive.
What does AutoSprint mean here?
Sprint stays on permanently, crouch temporarily switches it off and turning it back on after release, so you no longer need a dedicated sprint key.
When do I need to jog instead of sprint?
The guide says healing others with the syringe, locking on with the Seeker Six or healing darts, and blocking or parrying do not work properly while sprinting.
