KF2 Trader Skip Hotkey: AutoHotkey Script Guide

This page paraphrases a short community guide on binding the Skip Trader action in Killing Floor 2 to a keyboard key. The game does not let you bind it with a console command, so the author uses an AutoHotkey (AHK) script instead of pressing Escape, moving the mouse and clicking Skip by hand. The author says the script is adapted from an earlier guide by another user and that they themselves know little about coding.

Guide cover Cover of the original guide.

What you need

AutoHotkey must be installed first (the guide does not cover that). Then:

  1. Download the author's script folder (linked from the original guide).
  2. Place the folder anywhere.
  3. Double-click _Traderskip script start.AHK_ to start it.

Default keys:

  • F8 skips the trader.
  • F10 kills the script.

The folder also holds two .mp3 sound effects, which you can delete if you dislike them.

Customizing

Right-click the .AHK file and choose Edit to open it in Notepad.

  • Change the key binds at the top, key_Terminate and key_SkipTrader, to any keys you like.
  • The line Click, 1600, 800 holds screen coordinates for the Skip button. The defaults work at 1920x1080 and may need changing for other resolutions.

The author quotes the original guide's advice: the first number is the horizontal position and the second the vertical one. If the click lands too low, make the second number smaller; if too high, larger. If it lands to the left of the button, raise the first number; if to the right, lower it.

The full script

If you prefer not to download anything, the whole script is short. It sets two key variables and then loops forever:

  • If the terminate key is held, it plays a sound, waits a second and exits.
  • If the skip key is held, it plays a sound, sends Escape, waits 50 ms, clicks at the stored coordinates, waits 500 ms and sends a left click.
;Key binds, change it to whatever suits you
key_Terminate:="F10"
key_SkipTrader:="F8"
;Main program loop, don't break out of it
loop {
;Menu handling
if GetKeyState(key_Terminate)
{
SoundPlay, %A_ScriptDir%\terminate.mp3
sleep 1000
ExitApp
}
if GetKeyState(key_SkipTrader)
{
SoundPlay, %A_ScriptDir%\skiptrader.mp3
Send, {Esc}
Sleep, 50
Click, 1600, 800
Sleep, 500
Send, {Blind}{LButton}
}
}

FAQ

Why use AutoHotkey to skip the trader?
Skip Trader cannot be bound to a key through the console, so the script presses Escape and clicks the Skip button for you.
What are the default keys?
F8 skips the trader and F10 terminates the script.
The click lands in the wrong place. What should I change?
Edit the Click line. The defaults work at 1920x1080. Lower the second number if the click lands too low and raise it if too high; adjust the first number for left and right offsets.
