KF2 Custom Music: Replace In-Game Songs With a GUI Tool
This guide (from 2016) introduces a small GUI tool that overwrites the game's music tracks with your own audio files, so you can hear any songs you like in Killing Floor 2. The tool is open source (WTFPL) and published on GitHub as overlandandseas/killingfloor2musictool.
Requirements
- Killing Floor 2.
- Wwise Authoring Tools v2015.1.4, downloadable from the Audiokinetic website. The author first said a newer version is acceptable, but several commenters later reported that anything other than the 2015 version causes the stuck-on-loading problem.
- The Killing Floor 2 Music Tool, release 0.0.9 or newer from GitHub. Choose the zip or the 7z archive.
Prerequisites for the tool.
The release page with the zip and 7z downloads.
How to use it
- Extract the archive and launch the exe. If the game and Wwise are installed in default locations, the tool finds them.
- If not, click the upload icon and locate your KFGame.exe.
- Do the same for the Wwise installation if it was not detected.
- After that you see the list of the game's song files.
- Click the icon next to the song you want to replace, pick a WAV file and open it.
- Conversion takes up to about 30 seconds and only one file can be converted at a time.
- When it finishes, start the game; the track is replaced.
The tool on first launch.
Pointing the tool to KFGame.exe.
Pointing the tool to the Wwise installation.
The list of replaceable songs.
Selecting your WAV file.
Conversion complete; you are ready to play.
Notes from the comments
- The tool overwrites the source sound file, so there is no version mismatch when playing online. It is unclear whether changes must be redone after game updates.
- It did not include the main-menu music (MAMB) at the time.
- Several users got stuck on LOADING, including with a 35 MB WAV; the cure that was reported is using exactly Wwise 2015.
- A no-install alternative: lower in-game music volume to 0 and play your own player.
Bugs go to the project's GitHub issue tracker, and contributions are welcome there. For other tweaks see mods pages on the site.
