Import Custom Music into KF2 with Wwise (Early Guide)
A short early-access walkthrough for replacing Killing Floor 2 music with your own songs. For newer versions of the same workflow see custom music with Wwise and wem files.
What you need
- Wwise Authoring Tools (the guide uses version 2014.1.4 build 5248).
- Any audio program (Audacity, GoldWave, even foobar2000) to convert your song to
.wavfirst.
Conversion and replacement
- Install Wwise with default settings and open the authoring tool (
Authoring\x64\Release\bin\Wwise.exe). - Choose Project, New, name the project and press "Select None".
- Open Project, Project Settings and go to the Source Settings tab.
- In the Default Conversion Settings block press "..." and choose Conversion Settings, Factory Conversion Settings, Vorbis, Vorbis Quality High. Confirm both windows.
- Choose Project, Import Audio Files.
- Press "Add Files...", add your wav files and import.
- Choose Project, Convert All Audio Files and confirm.
- Open the converted files folder:
Documents\WwiseProjects\<project name>\.cache\Windows\SFX. - Use the community list of track IDs to see which file is which, and rename your new
.wemto the ID of the track you want to replace. - Go to the game's music folder:
steamapps\common\killingfloor2\KFGame\BrewedPC\WwiseAudio\Windows. - Back up your files first.
- Replace the audio file with your new one.
Track duration
The track length can be a problem. The music folder contains SoundbanksInfo.xml, which describes how each song plays. File names are not identical but similar.
DurationTypeis how the song is played:OneShotplays once,Infiniteloops indefinitely.Durationis in seconds.
If you hear silence at the end or the song cuts off, adjust the duration to match your track.
The author invited feedback and wished readers good luck.
