KF2 Reborn Server Mod: Features, Ultimates, Chat Commands
KF2 Reborn is the name of a heavily modded community server (MPJ) for Killing Floor 2 whose admins wrote a Steam guide explaining the changed rules and mechanics for newcomers. The server rebuilds many parts of the game: new classes and abilities, weapon durability, knockdown, a carry-weight system, a custom trader voice and a long list of chat commands. Everything below describes that server mod, not the vanilla game. For crash fixes in the base game see the startup crashes guide.

Server etiquette
- Do not run around in "golden and neon" cosmetics; the admins ask players to dress sensibly.
- Use the server Discord for voice communication; without teamwork you quickly end up as a spectator.
- Never sell a teammate's gun without permission.
- Share dosh so that teammates can afford better equipment and upgrades.
- The general rule: be a decent teammate and do not shoot your own.
Changes and new mechanics
- Player legs are rendered in first person.
- The medic can restore armor with darts up to 100 percent.
- Custom music was added, and the trader voice was replaced.
- Classes were reworked, with changed perks and passive abilities. Each class can pick its starting weapon.
- Spot: you can tag a large ZED by aiming at it.

Ammo bag, armor bag and Tactical Backpack
- Support gets an Ammo Bag with two trader upgrades. The first lets players refill 20 percent armor from a bag on the floor, the second heals 20 HP and gives a temporary speed and resistance boost like the medic skill. With an upgrade you can pick up the bag even at full ammo if your armor or health is below 100 percent. You cannot refill from your own dropped bag, to prevent infinite abuse.
- SWAT gets an armor bag that raises armor up to 250 but slows you down in proportion to the armor taken.
- Everyone can buy a Tactical Backpack in the trader. It raises carry weight, ammunition reserve and magazine size. Pouches add weight capacity, the Ammo Vest adds magazine size, and backpack upgrades add reserve ammo. By default each class carries 10 kg and Support 15 kg; with pouches the maximum is 20 kg (25 kg for Support). Pouches can be destroyed, and a gun over the weight limit then drops.
- Carrying weight slows you: each kilogram costs 3 percent speed.

Weapons, bleeding, stuns
- Weapon durability: depending on its condition a weapon can jam and sells for less. A Gun Clean kit repairs up to 75 percent; upgrades raise that to 100 and 125 percent. The Engineer class carries the kit.
- Bleeding: slashing and saw attacks cause bleeding if you have under 10 armor after the hit; it slows you by 25 percent and is removed by healing.
- Siren screams shake the screen and stun slightly; Fleshpound and Scrake footsteps shake the screen, so you notice big ZEDs behind you.
- More stun sounds and effects from explosions, large ZED hits, Husk fireballs and others.
- Syringes give buffs to everyone in four modes: heal, speed, toughness and power; they can be upgraded.
- Weapons on the floor are limited; at the limit trader purchases stop.
Class ultimates
| Class | Ultimate | Duration / cooldown | Effect |
|---|---|---|---|
| Commando | Stealth | 30 s / 60 s | Killing in stealth ends it but triggers 10 s of ZED time; stealth is paused during ZED time |
| Support | Team supplier | 30 s / 120 s | Team gets 5 percent ammo per kill (10 percent for a big ZED) |
| Field Medic | Team booster | 20 s / 30 s | The whole team receives maximum boosts |
| Field Medic | Defibrillation | once per wave | Revive one dead player |
| Marksman | Lucky bullet | 25 s / 90 s | 40 percent chance not to use ammo, bullets crit |
| Sniper | Marked for death | 30 s / 120 s | Mark up to 5 big ZEDs for double damage |
| SWAT | Strong protection | 30 s / 90 s | A barrier that absorbs all damage |
The authors warn that some ultimates were still work in progress and may be missing on a given server. Press Alt to activate the ultimate.
Advanced damage and knockdown
Damage from ZEDs is spread over body parts instead of one hitbox. Armor up to 150 does not protect fully, and the multiplier depends on where you are hit: head x1.5, neck x1.25, legs x1.0, shoulders x0.75, body x0.5.
A durability bar replaces the XP bar (shown above allies too). It drops when projectiles or ZEDs hit you. Below 75 percent you can be knocked down; at 0 percent you have a 25 percent base chance, and the chance rises as health falls (for example 0 percent durability and 67 HP gives 25 + 32 percent). Healing refills durability (30 percent health restores 15 percent durability). While downed you can still use ultimates and the syringe, but ZEDs can attack you. Lower health means a longer time on the floor (2 to 10 seconds), and an ally can shorten it with darts, 1 to 2 seconds per dart.
Weapon rosters
The server swaps in a large custom arsenal built from real-world and fictional guns, grouped by class (Commando, Support, Battle Medic, SWAT, Recon, Marksman, Demolitionist, Engineer and Firebug). Each class has default primary, secondary, melee, grenade, ability and gadget. Examples: Commando starts around the L85 A2 with a Beretta M9A3 and the Stealth ability, Support around the Mossberg 500 with a Judge and the Team Supplier ability and an Ammo Bag, SWAT around the MP-7 and Glock 18c with an Armor Supply gadget, Engineer with the KillerWatt MK 3 and a Gun Clean kit.

Closing note
The authors close by saying they love and criticize Killing Floor 2 and built the server to show what the game could be with a different design, and they invite newcomers to join their Discord and Steam group.
