KF2: Bring Back the Old Menu Music (Outbreak) via WEM Swap

If you miss the original menu theme, Pandemic Outbreak by Zynthetic, and are tired of Monstrosity by Rocky Gray, there is an easy fix. You do not need Wwise or any modding knowledge: the music is just a WEM audio file that you can swap by renaming a copy. Where the files are

Open your game folder:

Steam\steamapps\common\killingfloor2\KFGame\BrewedPC\WwiseAudio\Windows\

You will see language folders and many WEM files with numbers for names. They contain the game audio, including the menu music.

Which files to use

Find the WEM for the old theme and the one for the current theme:

Monstrosity (current menu theme)	492841800.wem

Locating both files in the folder.

Swap them

1. Make a backup copy of 492841800.wem first, so you can restore it without verifying game files.
2. Copy 799659999.wem and rename the copy to 492841800.wem.
3. Windows will first call the pasted file something like "name (2).wem", so delete the original and rename the copy again.

The copy takes the name of the current menu theme.

The next time you start Killing Floor 2, the old theme plays in the menu.

Things to keep in mind

• This only changes the music while no event is running. To hear Outbreak during holiday events, you would need to replace the WEM files for those event songs as well. Their numbers are listed in the text files in the same folder, named like Wwise_DefaultBank_....txt.
• A game update or file verification can restore the original files, so you may need to repeat the swap.
