KF2 Berserker Solo on Short Hell on Earth: Skills and Wave Plan

A short guide (last updated 2 December 2017) on how one player plays Berserker, and what was used to earn the Hell on Earth achievements for Berserker and for each map. It targets a short game, which gives money quickly. For other approaches see Berserker easy win and solo 4-wave guide.

Skills

Skill selection

The author's skill choices.

  • Skirmisher: speed to outrun ZEDs and flee danger; health regeneration lets you recover outside combat without relying only on the syringe.
  • Vampire: health from kills keeps you in the fight longer.
  • Resistance: the style is hack and slash with an emphasis on survivability; parrying is only needed for spinning Gorefiends, so resistance is the better pick.
  • Smash: heavy attacks are used constantly, since the shovel one-shots many ZEDs with headchops and the Katana one-shots many even without one.
  • Zed Time Spartan: moving in real time during Zed Time gives a handful of easy melee headchops or Eviscerator headshots every time, and can be used to run away or break out of a horde.

Weapons by wave

Wave 1

Wave 1

Wave 1: you have only the Crovel.

You have no choice here: use the Crovel.

Wave 2

Wave 2 shop

Wave 2 loadout

Wave 2: Katana and Nailgun.

Short games pay quickly. Buy the Katana (your main weapon) and the Nailgun as secondary. The Nailgun is used for shots when you are too low on health for melee, to take out Husks (strong flamethrower and self-destruct), to kill Bloats (instead of chopping their heads) and to deal with troublesome Gorefiends because of their damage, health and resistance.

Wave 3

Wave 3

Wave 3: the Eviscerator.

Sell the Nailgun and buy the Eviscerator, keeping the Katana since you have the space and the fuel will not last a whole wave. The Eviscerator takes over from the Nailgun and is also a great way to take down Scrakes and Fleshpounds with headshots, and to chainsaw hordes of Gorefiends. You should also be able to buy full armor and grenades.

Wave 4

Nothing new; just auto fill.

Boss wave

Buy a second Eviscerator. Unless you kill the Patriarch without a heal or go around picking up your blades, you will run out of ammo, so a spare gun helps.

Other tips

  • Do not get surrounded; watch your back.
  • Running is a valid technique: if you take too much damage, flee and let skills and the syringe heal you.
  • Zed train: keep ZEDs following behind you so they are easy to pick off.
  • Ranged weapons are good; if you are not comfortable with melee, use them as you see fit.
  • Possible at level 20 as you already have all skills, but level 25 is recommended.
  • Light attacks are good against hordes of Crawlers.
  • The melee stab (default bind V) is good on ZEDs with minimal movement for a headshot, like a Cyst.
  • Open spaces are good for waves (more room and directions, less chance to be surrounded) but bad for the boss wave, with nothing to hide behind.

FAQ

Which weapons does this Berserker plan use?
Katana as the main weapon, the Nailgun in wave 2 as a secondary, then an Eviscerator from wave 3 (replacing the Nailgun), and a second Eviscerator for the boss wave.
Can it be done at level 20?
Yes, since you already have all the skills, but level 25 is recommended for the higher perk bonuses.
